ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIRED
We are seeking a versatile Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer (flexible across SA1 to SA3 levels) to join our team in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will play a central part in driving the stability, automation, and security of core Linux infrastructure spanning on-premise virtualized environments and AWS cloud architectures. As an engineer at Nyla, you are an ever-curious self-starter who loves automating the routine to focus on high-impact problem solving. You will leverage modern configuration management tools like Ansible and SaltStack to orchestrate infrastructure, maintain Identity and Access Management with FreeIPA, and manage scalable storage and KVM virtualization systems. You'll also play a critical role in enforcing System Security Plan (SSP) compliance and supporting STE/STN standards across our systems. The annual base salary range for this role is $115,000-$214,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
Required Skills
Linux System Administration: Deep, hands-on experience administering, configuring, and hardening Linux operating environments.
Infrastructure Automation: Demonstrated experience using Ansible and/or SaltStack for automated provisioning, configuration management, and patch orchestration.
Scripting Proficiency: Practical ability to write clean, effective scripts in Bash, Python, Perl, or similar languages to automate routine operational tasks.
Virtualization & Storage: Hands-on experience configuring and managing KVM virtualization, container platforms, and enterprise storage management.
Identity Management: Applied experience managing centralized authentication and identity services, specifically FreeIPA / Red Hat IdM.
Security & Compliance: Direct experience maintaining SSP compliance and executing STE/STN controls and STIG alignments on Linux systems.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 5+ years of professional software development experience OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 10+ years of hands-on technical software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
Desired Skills
Hands-on operational experience within AWS cloud architectures (e.g., EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, VPC).
Advanced experience integrating containers and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS).
Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and Git-based code management.
