1.0 Summary Job Function
The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for supporting existing products throughout their lifecycle by addressing product quality issues, driving continuous improvement initiatives, managing component obsolescence, and supporting manufacturing and customer requirements. This role serves as the technical bridge between Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, and Customer Service to ensure product performance, reliability, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
The Sustaining Engineer investigates product and process issues, develops corrective actions, implements engineering changes, and leads efforts to improve manufacturability, reliability, cost, and product supportability.
2.0 Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related discipline.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with electrical metering, test equipment, instrumentation, or power measurement products.
• Experience with engineering change management processes.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or related quality systems.
• Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action processes, programs or similar.

4.0 Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical support for released products, ensuring continued performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction throughout the product lifecycle.
• Investigate manufacturing, quality, and field-related product issues; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Lead Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), including documentation, validation, and implementation.
• Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production issues and driving improvements in yield, quality, and efficiency.
• Analyze customer returns, warranty claims, and field failures to identify trends and recommend product improvements.
• Manage component obsolescence by identifying replacement parts, conducting qualification testing, and minimizing supply chain risks.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, test procedures, bills of material, and work instructions.
• Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, Product Development, and Customer Service teams to resolve product and process issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, manufacturability, cost reduction, and product performance.
• Ensure products remain compliant with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality management systems.
