The Sustainable Finance and Transition (SF&T) team is accountable for the delivery and execution of the commercial sustainability opportunity for HSBC, with the ambition to finance and facilitate between $750 and $1 trillion of Sustainable Financing and Investment by 2030.

We are seeking an ambitious, organised and curious individual to join the team as a Sustainable Finance & Transition Associate. The role will report to the Head of Sustainable Finance and Transition US and is based in New York City.

As our Sustainable Finance Associate you will:
  • Support client engagement and origination: Work with GRBs (Global Relationship Bankers) on client planning leading the SF&T component of the client plan whilst managing policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaire and transition plan assessments along with coverage team
  • Contribute to client sustainability insights, pitch propositions bringing along Centre of Excellence and/or product partners where relevant and provide insights on trends
  • Support team to originate sustainable finance across all products and support with execution of sustainable finance deals for loans
  • Contribute to weekly reports shared with the regional team highlighting volumes, and key information on the sustainable lending transactions
  • Manage origination of non-sustainable finance labelled products through strategic sustainability dialogue
  • Contribute to the regional Sustainable Finance Forum (SFF) ambition to increase Sustainable Finance and Sustainable Lending origination in a robust, client needs-based and efficient manner
  • Review and support the process of green, social, sustainable, and sustainability-linked financing transactions
  • Manage greenwashing and other sustainability risk by supporting the banking teams with managing risks arising from our sustainability policies and the execution of sustainable finance transactions in close collaboration with business sustainability risk. As well as collaborating with Risk & Compliance partners

You'll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:
  • Knowledge of banking products and experience working closely with coverage, transaction banking and capital markets products
  • Knowledge of key sustainability topics and experience in holding a technical sustainability related conversation
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels
  • Creative idea generation, understand complex topics, and being able to translate to engaging written and visual content
  • Experience of building strong relationships with first line and second line Risk partners and functions
  • Demonstrate success in driving forward priority change with pace, whilst setting and handling realistic expectations
  • Demonstrate strong work diligence and accountability by consistently following through on frontline requests, ensuring timely and accurate execution on deliverables, and maintain clear, proactive communication throughout all stages of client and internal engagements
  • Highly motivated and proactive, eager to accept new challenges and experience of executing at pace

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
