Surveyor - Mining Works

SUMMARY
Reporting into the Director, Mining Operations, the Surveyor - Mining Works is responsible for supporting safe, accurate, and efficient mining operations through precise surveying, spatial data collection, and analysis. This role plays a critical part in mine planning, production tracking, and construction/layout activities across the site.
You will be responsible for conducting and maintaining survey control, supporting excavation and development activities, and ensuring all spatial data aligns with engineering and geological requirements. You will work closely with mine engineering, geology, drill & blast, and operations teams to ensure accurate execution of mine plans and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE
Survey Execution & Mine Layout
• Lead execution of open-pit, underground, topographic, and construction surveys across mining operations
• Own end-to-end delivery of survey control establishment, verification, and maintenance
• Ensure accurate set-out of mine infrastructure including haul roads, pits, waste dumps, and underground workings
• Act as subject matter expert for mine surveying practices and spatial data collection
• Produce precise as-built surveys to support operational and regulatory requirements
Stakeholder Collaboration & Operational Support
• Partner with cross-functional teams including mine engineering, geology, drill & blast, and operations
• Communicate survey findings, risks, and deviations to ensure alignment with mine plans
• Support leadership decision-making through accurate reporting, mapping, and spatial analysis
• Coordinate with field crews and contractors to ensure timely and accurate survey execution
• Provide technical guidance to operational teams on layout and design interpretation
Data Analysis, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• Analyze survey data to identify discrepancies between design and actual site conditions
• Create and maintain mine maps, models, drawings, and spatial datasets
• Develop volume calculations, stockpile measurements, and production reconciliation reports
• Recommend and implement improvements to survey processes and data accuracy
• Ensure integrity of spatial databases and survey documentation across operations
Safety, Compliance & Field Operations
• Ensure adherence to mine safety protocols, company procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain safe working practices in active mining and field environments
• Manage survey equipment calibration, maintenance, and operational readiness
• Support implementation of standardized survey procedures and best practices
• Mitigate operational risks through accurate and timely survey reporting
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• 5+ years of experience in mining surveying (open-pit and/or underground operations)
• Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field
• Experience in active mining or heavy industrial environments
• Strong proficiency with surveying tools and software (e.g., GPS/GNSS, total stations, Leica/Trimble systems, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Deswik or similar)
• Solid understanding of mine surveying principles including volumes, pit progression, and drill & blast layout
• Experience with UAV/drone surveying, LiDAR, or 3D scanning is an asset
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and spatial analysis skills
• Ability to work in remote field environments under varying and sometimes challenging conditions
WHAT WE OFFER
• Expected Base Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
