Job Summary/Purpose

Provides leadership for the engineering design activities for projects within Transmission Line Design. The position supervises employees who prepare the estimates, project scopes, technical drawings, construction specifications, material specifications and requisitions and complete as-built documentation. The supervisor ensures that projects achieve stated objectives, are implemented in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards, meet established schedules and are completed within approved authorizations and budgets.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Provides direct supervision to an engineering staff of transmission line designers, including coaching, training, effective resource management, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.

Evaluates the resource levels required for current and future workloads; Assigns company and contractor staff to accomplish effectively; Manages consultants, which includes scope preparation, bid evaluation, cost tracking, invoice approval and processing, and release order preparation.

Actively participates on a jurisdictional team of supervisors with other functional area supervisors to enhance communication and coordination within the project organization.

Serves as the primary contact for the Grids, Distribution and Project Development for design evaluations, proposals and estimates for studies, customer requests, maintenance and potential projects.

Develops, maintains and implements transmission line design standards.

Responds to transmission line related regulatory and compliance issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with proven leadership capabilities.


Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Extensive knowledge of transmission line design practices, standards, procedures and processes; Thorough understanding of design, planning, project management, operations and/or construction. Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously. Capable of moving frequently between multiple tasks, while prioritizing conflicting priorities. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company. Strong analytical, problem solving and documentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills; team player. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position
  • Professional Engineering license desired (will vary state by state on requirements; higher management having PE could eliminate the need at lower level).
