Position Summary Description

Plans, coordinates, supervises and participate in all power plant operational and maintenance activities at Shady Hills Energy Center in order to meet system electrical load demands and maintain plant capacity at its highest attainable level while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards possible while motivating and instilling ownership of plant equipment and processes by all team members.

WORK LOCATION: Shady Hills Energy Center in Spring Hill, FL.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Engineering or related degree or equivalent training is desirable. Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in power plant operations to include five (5) years in supervision is required. Combined experience in a maintenance craft and in operation of combustion and steam turbines is preferable.

Essential Functions
  • Directly supervises Operations Technicians in the proper operation and maintenance of the plant to ensure proper understanding and implementation of procedures for safe, effective and efficient plant operation and maintenance.
  • Determines and implements required employee training programs to ensure completion of those requirements.
  • Coordinates and oversees daily work of Seminole and contractor personnel during and after normal hours to ensure compliance with Seminole requirements.
  • Provides a safe and productive work environment for team members congruent with Seminole's desired culture and in full support of Seminole's purpose, core values, core competencies and organizational goals.
  • Supervises and oversees activities of an assigned team on a 12-hour rotating shift.
  • Develops system operational procedures and guidelines for approval by the Manager of Operations and Manager of Maintenance.
  • Coordinates and participates in daily plant activities with other supervisors.
  • Assists in formulating annual O&M / Capital budgets and work plans.
  • Manages supervised employee work performance.
  • Prepares daily and weekly work schedules.
  • Maintains proper inventory of materials and chemicals to ensure uninterrupted plant operation.
  • Supervises plant fire brigades as necessary and acts as incident commander for plant emergencies.
  • Implements and supervises site Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) program.
  • Effectively communicates plant status with management personnel.
  • Coordinates and communicates with dispatch personnel to meet Seminole dispatch schedules and load requirements.
  • Leads and reports troubleshooting efforts and investigations related to LOTO violations, equipment failures, environmental, and safety related incidents, takes short term actions and follows up with long term solutions
  • Provides daily, weekly, and monthly operations reports.
  • Performs as a project lead, a single point of contact for outage activities, including Outage Coordinator, as needed.
  • Performs operations and maintenance technician level activities as needed.
  • Develops and maintains a Subject Matter Expert level of knowledge for one or more major plant processes or systems.
  • Takes a proactive approach regarding personal safety, safety of others and comply with all OSHA and SECI safety rules. Must complete all necessary online or classroom safety courses as directed. Must lead in safety briefings and meetings.
  • Takes a proactive approach regarding environmental rules and regulations governing the operation of the plant. Must complete all necessary online or classroom environmental courses as directed. Required to immediately report any, and all, environmental reportable incidents.
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
  • NERC Compliance: Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.


Physical Requirements

Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Required to work in all areas of the plant site, both indoors and outdoors. Work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 200 ft. required. Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Working Conditions

Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment. Required to work in all areas of the plant site, both indoors and outdoors. Rotating shift work required. Work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 200 ft. required. Work with high temperature, high-pressure steam and water systems as well as high-pressure air and fluids are required. Work with chemicals is required.
