Overview

Ensures efficient, cost-effective, professional, and consistent delivery of services through oversight of daily operations and team members of the language services department. Recommends improvements to policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, promote diversity, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Supervisor, Language Services at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Ensures efficient daily operations of the department through appropriate staffing, workflow and productivity assessments.
  • Provides supervision and support for all members of the language services team.
  • Creates a team focused environment to ensure quality patient care. Conducts team meetings to foster quality customer service and teamwork.
  • Participates in performance evaluations. Makes recommendations on hires, transfers, promotions, disciplines, terminations and similar actions.
  • Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches. Integrates diversity into departmental objectives.
  • Assists in developing procedures that comply with establish organizational policies, quality, safety, and other programs.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Recommends improvements in systems, schedules, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and serves as a liaison to language related third party companies and vendors.
  • Collaborates with leadership team to identify and resolve issues.
  • Monitors monthly costs, cost allocation, resource usage, and language trends across the system per facility.
  • Proactively trains team members on how to work with interpreters and troubleshoots throughout the network any issues that arise regarding the use of interpreters.
  • Researches, recommends and implements most efficient and effective methods for provision of language and cultural services.
Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Associate`s Degree
  • Bi-lingual
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in either hospital/healthcare, business, hospitality, or customer service- recommended.

  • Hospital operations experience

Licenses and Certifications Required:
