Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Supervisor, Laboratory Operations for the Hematopathology service to provide technical, operational, quality, and people leadership. This role supports safe, reliable daily operations for pediatric oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, and clinical trial services in partnership with laboratory administration, medical leadership, and clinical stakeholders.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9a-5p with an On Call weekend rotation.

The Supervisor, Laboratory Operations oversees standardized workflows, high-complexity testing, quality assurance, regulatory readiness, workforce development, fiscal stewardship, and continuous improvement. The position serves as an operational bridge between laboratory services and clinical partners, ensuring accurate, timely, and clinically meaningful results while advancing Nemours Children's Health and departmental goals.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight for high complexity hematopathology testing, including bone marrow morphology and flow cytometry.
  • Ensure testing is performed accurately, safely, compliant with all regulatory requirements. Ensures within established turnaround times, with appropriate corrective action and follow-up when needed.
  • Partner with medical, laboratory, and administrative leaders to evaluate, validate, implement, and monitor new assays, methods, instruments, software, and workflows.
  • Serve as a technical and operational resource for laboratory staff, physicians, clinical teams, and organizational partners.
  • Act as an operational liaison to oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, clinical trials, pathology, and other clinical stakeholders.
  • Maintain continuous readiness for licensing, accreditation, and regulatory inspections and coordinate timely correction of identified deficiencies.
  • Establish and monitor quality control, proficiency testing, quality assurance, quality improvement activities, and laboratory performance indicators. Completes the necessary investigation and follows through with all corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead, coach, schedule, develop, and evaluate assigned technical and non-technical personnel while promoting a safe, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Support operating and capital budget activities, purchasing, staffing, inventory, equipment, workload statistics, and operational records.
  • Evaluate laboratory information system and informatics processes, support workflow validation, ensure staff training, and maintain complete and secure documentation.

The ideal candidate is an experienced clinical laboratory professional and people leader with expertise in hematology, flow cytometry, bone marrow morphology, quality management, regulatory readiness, and laboratory operations. This individual communicates effectively with interdisciplinary partners, applies sound judgment in complex operational settings, and is committed to patient safety, staff development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements
  • B. S. in Medical Technology (B.S.M.T. or equivalent, e.g., HHS examination or ability to meet CLIA qualifications for Moderate complexity laboratory testing) required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of practical clinical laboratory experience, including instrumentation and high-complexity testing.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a supervisor or team lead, or an equivalent combination of leadership experience consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Nationally/Internationally recognized certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent (ASCP, AAB, or AMT) eligible. Must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Flow cytometry and/or hematology experience strongly preferred; experience with bone marrow morphology or hematologic malignancy diagnostics preferred.
  • Experience supporting assay validation, regulatory inspections, quality management, workforce development, and laboratory operations preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, and/or clinical trial programs preferred.
