Description

The Supervising Senior Liability Specialist's primary role will be to provide guidance to the GL claims staff, discuss claims matters with staff and members, review claim files and provide direction, oversee the excess reimbursement process for claims they are assigned, maintain a small caseload of files performing claims handling tasks similar to the Specialists/Sr. Specialists, and participate in evaluating the performance of the employees whom they supervise.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise the Senior Specialist and Specialist positions.
  • Handle a small inventory of claims, ideally 50-75.
  • Monitor and evaluate case strategy, litigation management, reserves and case statuses to ensure compliance with the applicable caseload requirements in accordance with the Addendum B and Defense Counsel Standards.
  • Assist with making decisions regarding coverage on lesser complex exposures and involve coverage counsel on complex exposures as needed.
  • Provide regular oversight and review of the excess reportable claims.
  • Provide proactive direction and guidance to staff.
  • Assist members with claim questions.
  • Present claims or other department related material to appropriate committees as needed.
  • Create and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with members, committees, and staff.
  • Perform annual staff performance evaluations, goal reviews and succession plan reviews.
  • Ensure timely reinsurance reporting and member/reinsurer reimbursements.
  • There will be a moderate amount of travel.
  • Attend mediations/MSCs as needed.

  • Assist with the overall success of the organizational strategic plan, goals, and objectives of the organization.
  • Maintain a strong customer service focus both internally and externally.
  • Foster member relationships and assist members when needed.

Requirements

For approximately the first month following hire, selected candidates will report to our Folsom office daily for training. After successful completion of training, selected candidates will have the option to work full-time in our Folsom office, or remotely from a home location within a commutable distance from our Folsom, CA office, or a hybrid of both options. Candidates must also be able and willing to report in person to our Folsom location when required, which is generally 2 to 3 times per month, but could change based on business needs.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a directly related field or equivalent and five years' increasingly responsible work in a directly related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, including but not limited to:

  • Prior supervisory experience desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Experience working with a RMIS system.
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyze and interpret information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, members, and the public.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of research and evaluation techniques.
  • Completion of specialized educational training and courses related to insurance claims adjusting, reporting, settlement, and management are highly desirable.
  • Public agency claims experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to motivate and promote teamwork is desirable.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements of this position typically include: sitting for long periods of time, reaching, grasping, kneeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move. Travel is required 25% of the time.

Licensing Requirements

A valid Driver's license is required. Proof of auto insurance with no business exclusion is required.
