Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Advanced Practice Nurse of Cell Therapy Research within the Office of Human Research Services (OHRS) at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

The primary purpose of the Supervising Advanced Practice Nurse of Cell Therapy Research is to provide day business administrative leadership and clinical management of assigned areas through skillful directing, coaching, support, and delegation to research staff in the provision of clinically safe, fiscally sound, compassionate care and services.

The incumbent ensures that all cell therapy clinical research conducted within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (RCINJ) is according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and applicable Institutional, State, and Federal regulations and guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manages all daily clinical research operations and assigned endeavors, keeping executive management informed of trends and changes. Oversees the delivery of all clinical research activities daily. Provides guidance and direction to the clinical research staff. Monitors quality of patient care for all patients enrolled into clinical trials.
  • Oversees the organization and prioritization of workflow. Provides guidance and direction regarding cell therapy trials to the nursing, pharmacy and physician leadership throughout RCINJ Oncology Service Line. Collaborates with the DSG leader to prioritize patient screening and treatment workflows.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, nurse coordinators, pharmacy, Advanced Practice Nurses, and appropriate hospital and laboratory staff to ensure that services are promptly coordinated and delivered to patients.
  • Provides patient coverage when appropriate. Actively participates in protocol review, implementation, subject screening, enrollment, patient management, toxicity monitoring, and data entry.
  • Serves as the primary operational liaison between the clinical research team and the Principal Investigator's research laboratory, specifically managing the translational workflow of the cell therapy program.
  • Ensures all translational sample data, collection, processing, shipment, and storage procedures outlined in the clinical trial are accurately implemented by the research team and meet the rigorous quality standards required by the investigator's lab and regulatory bodies.
  • Performs effectively in life-threatening situations by anticipating emergent problems and initiating appropriate interventions based on RCINJ policy and procedures.
  • Recruits/selects/hires/evaluates and recommends disciplinary and personnel actions for staff assigned. Performs yearly evaluations in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that all trials are approved by the Institutional Review Board and all regulatory documentation is completed before initiation of the protocol. Ensure that all Institutional, State, and Federal regulations are followed throughout the research protocol. Reports deviations in regulatory compliance to the supervisor as appropriate.
  • Provides input and assists in developing cell therapy trial budgets for clinical operation services.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of Master's degree required.
  • Five (5) years of oncology-specific nursing experience is required including at least two (2) years as an Advanced Practice Nurse, preferably in an ambulatory setting.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory/managerial experience is required.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Registered as a Professional Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • American Heart Association: Basic Cardiac Life Support.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities required.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accomplishing superior performance in a union environment is necessary.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel Access, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate prepared (PhD/DNP) preferred.
  • Oncology Nursing Certificate Corporation (OCN) Certification preferred.
