Full Job Description
Superintendent, Electrical

The Electrical Superintendent provides field leadership for electrical work on hydroelectric unit overhaul projects. This role is accountable for the safe, efficient and high-quality execution of electrical installation, testing and commissioning activities, while coordinating trades, subcontractors, materials, equipment and interfaces with other project disciplines.

This is a site based position, 6 hours north of Sudbury.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Lead day-to-day field execution of electrical work, ensuring activities are completed safely and in accordance with drawings, specifications, schedules and quality requirements.

  • Plan and coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials, tools and equipment to meet daily and weekly production targets.

  • Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead plans in alignment with the project schedule and coordinate sequencing with mechanical, civil and commissioning teams.

  • Provide leadership and direction to electrical supervisors, forepersons, tradespeople and subcontractors; monitor performance and productivity.

  • Interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, specifications and technical requirements, and resolve field issues in collaboration with the project team.

  • Implement the Bird Safety Program, lead toolbox meetings and hazard assessments, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and site requirements.

  • Monitor workmanship and quality documentation, support inspections and testing, and ensure deficiencies are resolved promptly.

  • Coordinate electrical shutdowns, energization, testing and commissioning activities with the client, utility representatives and project stakeholders.

  • Track progress, labour and quantities; provide accurate field reporting and communicate risks, constraints and changes to the Project Manager.

  • Support material planning, procurement, subcontractor coordination, change management and project closeout.

What We Are Looking For
  • Journeyperson Electrician certification or equivalent electrical trade qualification; a related technical diploma is an asset.

  • 10+ years of progressive electrical construction experience, including experience leading crews or subcontractors in a superintendent or senior supervisory capacity.

  • Experience in hydroelectric, power generation, utilities, heavy industrial or major infrastructure environments is strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, installation practices, testing, commissioning, lockout/tagout and applicable codes and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and schedule field work, lead teams, manage productivity and coordinate multiple work fronts.

  • Ability to read and interpret contracts, electrical drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules.

  • Strong safety leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and digital construction or field reporting tools.

  • Willingness and ability to work at project sites, travel and accommodate project schedules as required.
