Position Title: Project Superintendent

Department: Operations

Reports To: Project Manager and COO

Summary: As a Project Superintendent at Earthtone Construction you are on the 'frontline' or Building a Better Future for our clients. Your leadership will guide and direct all activities on the project site providing mentorship, direction, and inspiration to your team. It is in this role that our trade partnerships and investment in each of our employees bears fruit in the production of great projects. You will be responsible for supervision of all field construction, personnel, quality, safety, scheduling, and compliance as well as general management on site. You will bring you skill to bare in planning and executing the project within the constraints of the schedule and budget while ensuring the quality of workmanship and safety is uncompromised. As a project Superintendent here at Earthtone you will be an integral part of the Management team. you will be a key component in protecting and promoting Earthtone Construction interests while delivering an exceptional project to the client.

Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Provide leadership to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships of the on-site staff and promote a positive, project morale.
  • Work in harmonious and collaborative manner with the Project Manager and support PM roles and responsibilities as needed for the success of the project and the company.
  • Attend OAC meetings as required
  • Maintain on-site project files and documentation
  • Maintain a thorough and complete knowledge and understanding of the budget, the contract drawings, specifications, and addenda, and to assist the PM in the development of the on-site procedures.
  • Track, organize and update all plans sets, revisions, SK's SSK's ASI's etc. Ensure all SK etc. are catalogued on the plans.
  • Prepare and maintain a Short Interval Schedule (Two week look ahead) and ensure that the project schedule is followed or amended with the PM as appropriate
  • Communicate with PM regarding needed RFI or Potential Change Orders. Estimate CO price changes as needed to assist PM.
  • Fully understand the responsibilities, scope, and timeline of each subcontractor by reviewing the Subcontract Agreements and proposals for each Subcontractor.
  • Examine the contract drawings, specifications and addenda for design deficiencies, impractical details, and code violations, and bring these to the attention of the PM who will review them with the Architect, design team and/or client.
  • Confirm that all required permits or licenses have been obtained and that all local authority inspection, special inspections, sign offs and field logs are procured.
  • Cooperate with, and direct, when necessary, the remedial actions indicated by the reports of the inspecting agencies.
  • Thoroughly review shop drawings and submittals to ensure fit, checking measurements and coordinating with construction documents and site conditions, and to report findings to Project Manager.
  • Plan and review the construction program with the PM including quality control procedures, safety and security practices, field office location and layout, temporary utilities, staging areas, equipment, and manpower.
  • Prepare lumber/material takeoff for all self-performed work. Place orders as required to ensure all supplies, materials etc. are available on-site
  • Layout hold-downs, framing, and other carpentry related items and verify layout with approved shop drawings and construction documents.
  • Adequately task ECI direct labor for maximum efficiency and quality.
  • Track, maintained and log specialist equipment, vehicles and rental equipment including all necessary servicing etc.
  • Thoroughly document progress on the job site by way of digital photographs, written daily reports and other means, as necessary.
  • Receive and check materials, store and protect as needed. Ensure that all components are inventoried and stored in a secure location in an orderly fashion for retrieval when needed for the project.
  • Conduct weekly coordination meetings and weekly safety meetings with field employees and subcontractors.
  • Prepare or review and approve, on an ongoing basis, all as-built plans schematics and drawings.
  • Review and approve/deny all time and material work vouchers
  • Review employee timecards for accuracy.
  • Make sure that all invoices, credit receipts, safety reports, timecards and other documentation is delivered to the administrative office by Monday morning of each week.
  • Maintain good relations and communications with all involved in the project, including neighbors and the public.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Safety Responsibilities:

  • Establish a safe working environment for all who enter the jobsite, by setting up first aid station(s), fire extinguisher(s), site specific emergency action plans, information posters including nearest hospital, sheriff/police, etc. and all required safety notices are posted.
  • Prepare a site-specific Fall Protection Plan and ensure site personnel understand and adhere to the fall protection plan.
  • Ensure ECI's IIPP plan is implemented with all ECI personnel and subcontractor.
  • Enforce all safety regulations including safe working practices, fall protection, safety equipment and PPE. Write up any personnel in violation of any safety policy
  • Inspect and tag all scaffolding.
  • Establish and maintain drinking water station, portable facilities with hand washing, heat prevention (shade) station.
  • Report all accidents and safety incidents to PM and HR Dept.
  • Maintain SDS File.
  • Conduct daily site walks and review safety throughout job site. Complete a hazard checklist bi-weekly.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings with all personnel on-site using safety topic sheet
  • Ensure that subcontractors enforce their safety programs including the holding of toolbox safety meetings.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall direction, supervision, coordination and evaluation of construction labor and subcontractors onsite.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ECI's policies and applicable laws


Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) years related experience, and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Must have strong management/organizational skills and be able to manage multiple project elements at one time.

  • Ability to plan, supervise and exercise effective leadership of site personnel and operations.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in industry software including but not limited to: Sage 100 Contractor, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam Revu, Dropbox, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.
  • Other training and/or certifications desired: Cal/OSHA/OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR

  • Must have a valid Driver's License


Required Tools and Equipment:

  • Basic hand tools including squares, levels, utility knife, tape, hammer, pliers, hand saws
  • Basic power tools including battery drill and driver, laser level, skill saw, sawsall, etc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, on job sites, equipment noise can be a much higher level and require ear protection.
