Substation Engineering Technician I - Relay & Controls Focused

Location: Maple Grove, MN (Eligible for hybrid schedule)

Summary:

Provide design and technical support for substation relay and controls projects while ensuring the design requirements and the objectives of the department are met.

A typical starting range for this position is $68,000 - $94,000 annually. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Support the design of substation relay and controls projects by using AutoCAD.
• Update Maximo, Lawson and Primavera with project related data.
• Perform design duties as assigned for substation construction projects to ensure accuracy by using Great River Energy (GRE) and Nationals Electric Safety Code (NESC) standards and specifications for projects.
• Assemble the construction issue package for review and signature by the professional engineer prior to issuing to the field.
• May lead or participate on cross-functional teams that are responsible for developing and updating internal GRE design standards and equipment specifications in or to ensure consistent, high-quality designs.

Qualifications:
• Two-year technical degree (such as drafting, electricity, electronics, or architecture), AND typically, up to 3 years of design or utility industry related experience.
• Some substation relay and controls design experience within the utility industry strongly preferred.
• Some experience with drafting substation relay and controls drawings within the utility industry strongly preferred.
• Some experience creating substation relay and controls drawings from mark ups provided by engineers or higher-level substation engineering technicians strongly preferred.
• Skill in utilizing AutoCAD, Maximo, and Primavera strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply safety codes, standards, and practices within a substation relay and controls setting strongly preferred.
• Project management, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Proven skill in developing positive working relationships with other team members.
• Ability to identify and distinguish colors are required.
