About the Role

The Study/Project Manager will lead and manage a team of internal and external resources and personnel on projects ranging from Due Diligence Studies through to NI 43-101 Feasibility Studies across various clients and sectors. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing and understanding the full project resource extraction lifecycle from geology, mining, metallurgy & processing, infrastructure, waste and tailings management, cost estimation and economic modeling. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams, as well as a wide range of clients, to guide and deliver successful projects within a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop project definition including organizational charts, battery limits, KPIs, and defined outcomes.
  • Work with JDS management to assemble project teams comprised of internal and external resources.
  • Manage teams of internal and external resources on project phases/scopes such as Due Diligence Studies, Scoping Studies, Preliminary Economic Assessments, Pre-Feasibility Studies, Feasibility Studies, and Detailed Design Development.
  • Lead development of study-phase deliverables such as reports, presentations, meeting minutes, invoicing, and memorandums.
  • Act as a Qualified Person for National Instrument 43-101 Technical Reports.
  • Produce cost estimates and schedules at the appropriate level for each project phase.
  • Monitor/track schedule and budget performance on a disciplined basis.
  • Set up and maintain project control systems (utilizing JDS's in house systems).
  • Maintain change management systems/documentation such as Change Notices, Change Orders, Change Logs, etc.
  • Manage contract and procurement processes (RFQs, RFPs, etc.) for direct contracting and/or acting as agent for our clients.
  • Ensure project communications are formalized as required, including running meetings, distributing minutes, formal letters to clients or others, formal progress reports as required by the project scope.
  • Seek opportunities to optimize project performance, including budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Communicate with all members of the project team, including client, professionally and in a timely fashion.
  • Support with mentoring, development, and training of junior employees.
  • Visit project sites as required.
  • Identify opportunities and develop proposals for new work.
  • Expand JDS's business offerings in the areas of Technical Services.

Qualifications
  • 10-15 years of experience in engineering (preferably mine engineering), and/or mine project/construction management.

  • Experience in establishing budgets, estimating, and scheduling.
  • Must posses a valid driver's license and be able to travel across Canada and internationally.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, Project is required.
  • Proficiency/experience in mine/civil design software (Civil 3D, Deswik, etc.) and scheduling software (Primavera P6) is an advantage.

Compensation
  • Compensation is based on actual hours worked (hourly as opposed to salary).

Work Schedule
  • Office work is generally performed at 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Office work is capped at 10 hours per day and on-site work is capped at 12 hours per day.
  • Travel time to/from a project site is paid from point of hire up to a maximum of 8 hours per travel day.
  • Travel costs to/from a project site are reimbursed, including meals/per-diems.
  • Time off will be accommodated with appropriate advanced notice to the Divisional General Manager or Vice President.
  • Vacation starts at two weeks per year (and included in hourly compensation). Additional un-paid time off is available based on project workload.
  • Expenses for training, when pre-approved by an employee's manager, are paid for by JDS. Time attending training is not compensated unless an exemption is granted.
