Job DescriptionStantec's New York City office is seeking a Structural Engineer to support engineering teams on large infrastructure design projects and pursuits in the New York City Metropolitan area. The engineer will work under direct supervision of a Design Manager or Senior Structural Engineer to assist on design and management of infrastructure projects and public spaces. Your Key Responsibilities- Develop project design deliverables including design criteria, contract design documents, design specifications, quantities and related calculations for various design projects under Design/Build and DesigAn/Bid/Build environments.
- Perform calculations independently using relevant analysis and design software.
- Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.
- Help resolve complex technical problems and exercise independent decision making.
- Perform construction phase services on behalf of the Designer of Record.
- Mentor and monitor work by Structural Designers.
- Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer.
- Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
- Attends and assists in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client's goals.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials- Licensed Professional Engineer license in the State of NY.
- Proficiency in software such as STAAD, SAP, RISA, PCA Structure Point Suite, and similar.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, OpenBuildings and/Autodesk Construction Cloud, and MicroStation.
- Proficient knowledge of structural design codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with agencies such as MTA, PANYNJ, NJ Transit, Amtrak or other public agencies is desired.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from an accredited institution
- Master's Degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from an accredited institution preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural design
Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
