Responsibilities

Full Job Description
We are actively looking for a Structural Engineer to join our team in Honolulu, HI. As part of our structural team, you will work in both the office and the field. This is an amazing opportunity to support some of the largest waterfront structural projects in the Pacific!

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Office duties include but are not limited to:
    • Completes structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber structures
    • Performs finite element static and dynamic structural modelling of structures
    • Assists Senior Engineers with the preparation of design concepts, specifications, schedules, quantity and cost estimates
    • Prepares design calculations and check calculations
    • Coordinates plan details with engineers and drafting technicians
    • Works closely with other disciplines in supporting multi-discipline projects
  • Field duties include but are not limited to:
    • Serves as a field engineer working 2 to 3 days per week on site to provide design construction administration services
    • Assists the designer of record (DOR) in providing technical solutions to unforeseen conditions and aid in communication between the DOR and other stakeholders
    • Attends coordination meetings, safety meetings, and other meetings, serving on behalf of the DOR
    • Visits construction sites to monitor progress and perform Quality Assurance (QA) to ensure project is constructed per the plans and specifications. Notifies both NAVFAC and DOR of any quality issues requiring resolution
    • Assists in reviewing submittals and request for information; tracks progress and coordinates with stakeholders for timely completion
    • Provides a digital field consultation report of each visit

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • 1 to 2 years of structural engineering design
  • Construction experience including reviewing and understanding detailed construction plans is required
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer licensure in CA or HI (seismic required) within 12 months of hire
  • Proficiency with: AutoCAD, SAP2000, STAAD and/or LPile are strongly desired
  • Field responsibilities will be 2 to 3 days per week and hours are planned to be before 9 AM (start time varies between 7 - 9 AM) and typically finish no later than 6:30 pm Monday through Friday; however, hours and days may vary due to staff scheduling, construction requirements, weather, or daylight. Willingness to work from Moffatt & Nichol's Honolulu office on non-field days is preferred
  • Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients
  • Due to client parameters, selected candidate must show (post offer) proof of U.S. citizenship and clear results of a thorough background check that may include but is not limited to credit and criminal history

Working conditions:

This career opportunity requires the employee to work in both the office and the field. Employee must be able to work on the job site before 9 AM (start time varies between 7 - 9 AM) and typically finishes no later than 6:30 pm. Non-field days are in the office from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Flexible hours may be required to accommodate the construction schedule and project requirements.

Office requirements may require individual being sedentary for a prolonged period of time and interact with clients. Ability to use standard office equipment is required. When working in the field, duties may necessitate climbing, navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work includes exposure to extreme heat, cold or inclement weather. Travel to other job locations or offices may also be required.

Base salary range:

$44.00 to $58.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Hawaii market.
