Are you ready to take your career to the next level with a forward-thinking, Native American-owned, multi-disciplinary consulting firm? Akana is seeking a Structural EngineerII to join our team. This is a full time, hybrid / remote position; some in office hours may be required.
The ideal Structural Engineer II will possess strong technical knowledge with experience working in regions of high seismicity and be competent to lead design efforts for small-to-medium sized projects and assist on projects of larger scale.
What You Will Do:
È Independently apply code knowledge, standard engineering practices and experience to provide design solutions for a variety of buildings and structures.
È Produce and/or review plans, details, calculations and specifications for structural projects. Providing impactful input during the design phase emphasizing constructability and cost-efficiency ways to build new projects and repair existing systems.
È Lead or participate in the structural engineering effort across the entire life cycle of projects from schematic design through construction.
È Utilize both hand calculation methods and software (finite element analysis, modeling and other) to design structural members and systems in per project and code requirements.
È Lead or participate in collaboration with other disciplines, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure integration of structural systems and coordinated project delivery.
È Make periodic project site visits to assess existing structures, perform structural observations and conduct other design or construction-phase tasks per the project scope.
È Foster positive collaboration with external clients to help develop long-term relationships and future teaming opportunities.
È 5-10% travel time may be required.
Requirements
Minimum Required Key Qualifications for this position are shown below:
È Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (master's degree preferred)
È PE License, Oregon PE or SE preferred
È 5 years minimum in related experience
È Knowledgeable in Revit and/or AutoCAD. Proficiency preferred.
È A strong background in structural engineering principles and knowledge of local and national building codes including ASCE/SEI 7 and IBC. Knowledge of seismic/lateral design principles and experience with design for high seismicity is desirable
È Ability to prepare and review standard engineering plans and documentation
È Experience in a client-facing role (including business development and client management)
È Excellent written and verbal communication skills
È Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
È Experience with a variety of structural systems and materials including wood, structural steel, concrete, masonry, cold formed metal framing, etc.
