Full Job Description

GFT is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Buildings and Places Structural Team at our New York, NY office. This role involves leading key portions of structural design and rehabilitation projects for public agencies and private clients across the Greater New York/New Jersey area, while collaborating with senior engineers, project managers, designers, and other disciplines on project execution.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead structural design efforts for assigned project elements, independent assignments, or major portions of larger projects.
  • Develop and/or oversee the production of comprehensive structural drawings with clarity and precision, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations using both software tools and hand calculations to analyze and design structural elements such as beams, columns, foundations, and lateral systems.
  • Conduct gravity and lateral system analysis for low- to mid-rise building projects.
  • Evaluate and analyze existing structures for retrofits and rehabilitations.
  • Conduct field inspections for facilities and transit-related structures as required.
  • Utilize industry-standard software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, and TEDDS for structural analysis and design.
  • Support the development of scope, schedule, and budget for structural engineering tasks.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a professional and productive manner.
  • Engage in client interactions by participating in meetings to understand project requirements, present design solutions, and address any concerns.
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis (required).
  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or a Masters in Structural Engineering (required).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (required).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).
  • 4 to 8 years of progressive structural design experience.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design using both engineering software and hand calculations (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, STAAD).
  • Experience with structural drafting and detailing in AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation.
  • Solid understanding of building codes and industry standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is$118,000 - $141,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
