Structural CAE Engineer - Abaqus

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural CAE Engineer to support structural design and analysis for advanced engineering systems using industry-standard CAE tools. This role involves developing and evaluating complex finite element models, performing nonlinear structural simulations, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, and correlating simulation results with physical testing. The position follows a hybrid work schedule with four days per week onsite (Monday through Thursday).

Key Responsibilities
  • Build 3D structural analysis CAE models from CAD designs.
  • Develop, debug, and validate complex finite element models.
  • Perform nonlinear structural simulations at the system, subsystem, and component levels using ABAQUS or equivalent FEA software.
  • Create and modify finite element meshes using HyperMesh or equivalent preprocessing tools.
  • Evaluate simulation results and provide technical recommendations to engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to obtain simulation boundary conditions.
  • Support correlation of CAE models with physical test data through data analysis and model refinement.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams supporting geometry cleanup and meshing activities.
  • Prepare clear, organized technical reports summarizing analysis, recommendations, and conclusions.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with graduate-level FEA coursework.
  • Demonstrated graduate-level FEA coursework.
  • Thesis or research involving structural analysis.
  • Experience with nonlinear FEA projects.
  • Expertise using ABAQUS.
  • Experience using HyperMesh.
  • Experience correlating CAE results with physical testing.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with structural components and engineering design.
  • At least 3 years of experience performing nonlinear finite element analysis using ABAQUS.
  • Strong experience with ABAQUS and HyperMesh.
  • Experience with CAE model development, setup, execution, post-processing, and model validation.
  • Experience using fatigue analysis tools such as nCode or fe-safe.
  • Knowledge of structural modeling and simulation techniques for complex nonlinear problems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in structural CAE modeling and simulation.
  • Experience with OptiStruct Non-Linear, ANSYS, HyperView, ABAQUS Viewer, Teamcenter, or 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX).
  • Experience with Python scripting for ABAQUS automation and post-processing.
  • Knowledge of structural materials, fracture mechanics, crack initiation and propagation, and energy flow analysis.
  • Experience with thermal-mechanical coupled analysis.
  • Familiarity with optimization tools such as modeFRONTIER, iSight, HEEDS, Tosca, or OptiStruct.
  • Experience supporting physical testing.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively within engineering teams.
  • Experience with variability, robustness, and Six Sigma methodologies.
