Job Summary and Qualifications

Based in the Atlanta area, the Director, Strategic Sourcing & Contracting provides enterprise leadership for strategic sourcing, category management, contract administration, supplier relationship management, and strategic procurement initiatives across the health system. Reporting to the Vice President of Supply Chain, this role develops and executes enterprise sourcing strategies that optimize total cost of ownership, strengthen supplier partnerships, improve supply continuity, support clinical standardization, and advance organizational financial and operational performance.

The Director collaborates closely with executive leadership, physicians, clinicians, finance, operations, legal, and value analysis teams to develop long-term category strategies, negotiate complex agreements, manage supplier performance, drive standardization initiatives, and ensure sourcing decisions align with the organization's strategic, clinical, and financial priorities

What you will do in this role includes:

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management:

  • Develop and execute the strategic sourcing strategy for direct spend and assigned purchased services categories alignment with organizational mission, values, goals, and priorities.
  • Lead market assessments, spend analysis, benchmarking activities, and sourcing initiatives across assigned categories.
  • Evaluate total cost of ownership rather than acquisition cost alone
  • Establish category roadmaps that drive value, standardization, utilization management, and supplier optimization.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, value analysis teams, and operational leaders to support product standardization, utilization management, and evidence-based sourcing decisions.
  • Support physician engagement through value analysis governance
  • Balance quality, clinical outcomes, supply assurance, innovation, and financial value
  • Support integration of newly acquired hospitals and physician practices through sourcing standardization, supplier alignment, and contract integration


Contract Negotiation & Management:

  • Lead negotiation of complex enterprise agreements balancing financial value, clinical outcomes, operational requirements, service expectations, risk mitigation, and long-term strategic partnerships
  • Oversee contract lifecycle management including renewals, amendments, compliance monitoring, and contract governance processes.
  • Partner with legal and business stakeholders to ensure appropriate contract terms and risk mitigation.
  • Optimize enterprise contract portfolio through effective utilization of GPO agreements, local contracts, and strategic supplier partnerships


Financial Performance & Savings:

  • Develop, track, validate, and report savings initiatives and value delivery associated with sourcing and contracting activities.
  • Accountable for measuring and reporting financial value through strategic sourcing, contract optimization, utilization management, supplier performance, and total cost of ownership initiatives
  • Support achievement of annual financial goals through strategic sourcing, contract optimization, utilization improvement, and supplier performance initiatives.
  • Monitor contract compliance and utilization to maximize realized value.


Supplier Strategy and Innovation:

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers and business partners.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Evaluate supplier innovation and emerging technologies
  • Drive supplier accountability related to quality, service, innovation, and cost performance
  • Advance supplier diversity and sustainability initiatives where aligned with organizational priorities
  • Assess supplier risk and develop contingency sourcing strategies
  • Monitor geopolitical and market risks


Leadership & Team Development:

  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management for sourcing and contracting personnel.
  • Develop team capabilities through training, mentoring, and continuous development activities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop enterprise sourcing capabilities through succession planning, mentoring, professional development, and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to influence executive leadership and physicians


Performance Management & Reporting:

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators related to sourcing, contracting, supplier performance, and value realization.
  • Prepare and communicate regular reports, dashboards, and executive summaries.
  • Utilize ERP and contract management systems to support operational effectiveness and reporting.


What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Supply Chain, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field. - Required
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree - Preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in healthcare supply chain, sourcing, contracting, category management, or procurement leadership - Required
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience including hiring, coaching, performance management, and staff development - Required
  • Experience negotiating complex healthcare contracts, including physician preference items, clinical products, equipment, and purchased services - Preferred
  • Experience working within integrated delivery networks, healthcare systems, GPO environments, or large healthcare organizations - Preferred
  • Negotiation Skills - Strong and demonstrated negotiation skills and a track record of achieving cost savings and process improvements - Required
  • Healthcare Knowledge - In-depth knowledge of healthcare supply chain processes, regulations and leading practices - Required
  • Project Management and Collaboration - Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously - Required
  • Financial and Analytical Acumen - Ability to analyze spend data, evaluate sourcing opportunities, measure contract performance, validate savings outcomes, and support achievement of financial and operational objectives - Required
  • Supplier and Stakeholder Relationship Management - Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, physicians, clinicians, operational leaders, and executive stakeholders to drive alignment, standardization, and value realization- Required
