Position SummaryThe Strategic Marketing and Commercial Analyst is the owner of the Group's CRM platform and the analytical engine behind its commercial strategy. The role has two tightly linked halves. First, it administers the CRM so that pipeline, account, quote and win/loss data is complete, consistent and trusted across every operating company. Second, it turns that internal data, together with external market intelligence, into the analysis that guides where the Group targets demand, how it prices, and which markets and accounts it pursues next.
This is a high-visibility individual-contributor role based in Houston, working directly with the VP of Finance & Operations, the CFO and the CEO, brand general managers, and outside sales. It suits an analyst who is equally comfortable managing enhancements to an existing CRM workflow, building a market-sizing model, and presenting a clear recommendations to senior leadership.
Key ResponsibilitiesCRM Administration and Commercial Systems (approximately 35%)- Serve as system administrator and process owner for the Group CRM: user setup and permissions, roles and territories, record types, page layouts, required fields, validation rules, workflows, and integrations with ERP, quoting and marketing tools.
- Own the commercial data model, including account hierarchies, brand and product-line taxonomy, end-market and sector coding, and opportunity stage definitions, so that data is comparable across all operating companies.
- Govern data quality through de-duplication, enrichment, standardized naming conventions, mandatory-field discipline, and a documented review cadence with sales leadership.
- Design and maintain dashboards and reports covering pipeline coverage, stage conversion, quote-to-order rates, win and loss reasons, sales-cycle length, and rep and territory performance.
- Train new and existing users, write and maintain process documentation and quick-reference guides, and act as first-line support for CRM questions across the Group.
- Lead CRM enhancement projects and data migrations, including onboarding newly acquired businesses onto the Group platform: gather requirements, manage vendor and internal IT relationships, test changes, and manage release communication.
Market Intelligence (approximately 30%)- Build and maintain a structured view of the Group's served markets, including the naval and submarine industrial base, power generation and data-center construction, refining and petrochemical, and general industrial process.
- Track demand drivers and leading indicators: federal and defense appropriations and program awards, utility and independent power capital plans, data-center announcements, refinery turnaround schedules, capital project announcements, and construction and MRO spending indices.
- Monitor the competitive landscape, covering competitor capacity, lead times, certifications and approvals, pricing behavior, distribution partnerships, product launches, and merger and acquisition activity.
- Maintain a live target-account and prospecting list, sizing the opportunity, identifying the demand signal and supply-chain pain behind each target, mapping the best-fit brand and product, and defining the entry route and first contact role.
- Perform whitespace and share-of-wallet analysis by combining billings history, CRM activity and external market data to identify accounts and product lines where the Group is under-penetrated.
- Curate voice-of-customer and channel feedback from sales, distributors and service teams into recurring themes that inform product, capacity and pricing decisions.
- Publish a recurring market intelligence briefing for the executive team and prepare deep-dive analyses on specific sectors, geographies or accounts on request.
- Maintain routine rhythms with leadership teams to maintain pulse of the market & the data.
Commercial Analysis and Reporting (approximately 25%)- Analyze bookings, backlog, revenue, margin and quote activity by brand, product line, end market, customer and region; explain variances and identify the underlying commercial drivers.
- Support pricing strategy through price realization analysis, discount and exception tracking, margin waterfall analysis, price-volume-mix bridges, and competitive price benchmarking.
- Build the analytical foundation for the annual commercial plan and periodic forecast updates, partnering with finance to reconcile the commercial pipeline view to the financial forecast.
- Develop and maintain the commercial KPI package and the reporting rhythm around it, including monthly commercial reviews, quarterly business reviews, and board and lender reporting inputs.
- Model the commercial impact of scenarios such as new market entry, capacity expansion, product-line extension, tariff and input-cost movements, and acquisition targets.
- Provide commercial diligence support on acquisitions: market attractiveness, customer concentration, pricing benchmarks and revenue synergy assessment, and support commercial integration after close.
Strategic Marketing Support (approximately 10%)- Translate market intelligence into segmentation, targeting and positioning recommendations for each brand and product line.
- Support campaign planning and execution by building target lists, defining segments, coordinating outbound sequences with sales, and measuring campaign-to-pipeline conversion.
- Measure and report marketing effectiveness, including lead source performance, cost per qualified opportunity, and marketing contribution to pipeline and bookings.
- Provide market and competitive input to sales collateral, capability statements, trade show and conference planning, customer qualification submissions, and the Group and brand websites.
- Maintain a consistent library of market data, charts and messaging that brand teams can reuse, so that the Group presents a coherent commercial story externally.
QualificationsRequired- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, economics, finance, engineering, data analytics or a related discipline.
- Three or more years of experience in commercial analysis, marketing analytics, sales operations, market research or a comparable analytical role.
- Demonstrated hands-on CRM administration or power-user experience, including report and dashboard building, workflow configuration and data governance. Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics or a comparable platform is acceptable.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, Power Query, and the ability to build clean, auditable models from imperfect source data.
- Proven ability to work with multiple data sources and reconcile them into a single defensible view.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and a clear recommendation to a senior audience.
- High attention to detail combined with sound commercial judgment about which details matter.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, and able to work on-site in Houston, Texas.
Preferred- Experience in industrial manufacturing, flow control, valves, forgings, oil and gas, power generation, or the defense and naval supply chain.
- Familiarity with multi-brand or multi-site organizations, and with integrating newly acquired businesses onto shared commercial systems.
- Experience supporting a private-equity-backed or lender-reported business, including board-level reporting.
- Working knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau, and comfort with SQL for data extraction.
- Exposure to financial planning and analysis platforms, ERP systems, or tools used to consolidate multi-entity reporting.
- CRM administrator certification or an equivalent demonstrable platform credential.
- Understanding of quality and qualification regimes relevant to industrial and defense supply, such as nuclear-grade or naval supplier qualification programs.

- Establish a baseline commercial reporting package agreed with the Chief Commercial Officer and finance.
- Build working relationships with brand general managers and the outside sales team.
First 12 Months- CRM data quality and adoption standards defined, documented and met, with pipeline data trusted by leadership as the single commercial source of truth.
- A recurring market intelligence briefing established and used in executive decision-making.
- A maintained target-account and whitespace pipeline that has produced measurable qualified opportunities.
- Pricing and margin analysis embedded in the commercial review cycle.
- Commercial reporting delivered on a reliable monthly and quarterly cadence with minimal rework.
Work Environment and Physical RequirementsThis position is based in an office environment in Houston, Texas, with periodic travel to manufacturing sites, customer facilities and industry events. Site visits require compliance with plant safety requirements, including personal protective equipment. The role involves prolonged periods of computer work and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds. Travel is expected to be up to 20 percent.
