Overview

Join our team as a Strategic Communication Outreach Specialist and support a federal transportation research center by shaping the strategy behind a nationally distributed research magazine and outreach program. You will build and execute integrated communication strategies, grow readership, and translate complex technical topics into compelling content for diverse audiences.

 

**Position is contingent upon contract award**

 

 

Work Schedule and Location:

Hybrid:  This full-time hybrid position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET (core hours fall within a 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ET window), with up to 20% on-site at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, McLean, VA (or Dept of Transportation HQ in Washington, DC), for meetings and coordination as needed. Some travel within the continental U.S. may be required for conferences and events.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic outreach plans, promotional campaigns, and magazine marketing initiatives
  • Create content for social media, web, and e-newsletters that expands digital readership
  • Conduct market research and reader surveys to refine outreach strategy
  • Measure and report on campaign performance using analytics
  • Provide staffing and marketing support for tradeshows, conferences, and outreach events
  • Translate complex technical or policy topics into accessible, high-impact narratives

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a closely related field
  • 6–10 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, and public affairs

Desired: 

  • Demonstrated success growing subscriptions or readership through social media campaigns
  • Experience in a Federal environment
  • Knowledge of highway/surface transportation research

 

 

Pay Range
