Responsibilities

  • Perform transmission design from conceptual phase to completion on various projects.
  • Modify and review engineering components based on project requirements and directives.
  • Prepare technical documents such as equipment specifications, RFQs, and technical bid summaries.
  • Conduct economic studies for conductor selection and perform grounding calculations.
  • Compile electrical clearance calculations in compliance with NESC and related codes.
  • Research and prepare project-related data and reports for team use.
  • Conduct field inspections and calculations for public and private clients.

Description

The Staff Transmission Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including underground and overhead high voltage transmission lines. The Staff Transmission Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting transmission plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Perform transmission design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review transmission components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Prepare transmission equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Perform economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance and grounding calculations/studies.
  • Compile calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or other applicable codes and resources. Prepare communications of the interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards.
  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used transmission engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry.
  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers. Compiles studies and reports. Writes specifications.
  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of transmission engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
  • Or Bachelor's degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of transmission engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
  • Or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of transmission engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite),
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, transmission analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.

Compensation

$110,000.00-160,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
