Job Title: Staff Telecommunications Engineer

Reports To: Manager, Operations

Rate of Pay: $121,000 - $150,000 USD

Purpose:

The Staff Telecommunications Engineer position is responsible for configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network and telecom elements carrying SIP, SS7, TDM and CAMA for Comtech's NG9-1-1 services. The applicant must be skilled at integrating with application teams to ensure processing of 9-1-1 calls, monitoring and reporting to end-customers while serving as tier III escalation and on-call for Comtech's service offerings.

As part of the Comtech Telecom team, implementing new product deployments across the nation while maintaining a high level of service on existing production systems is necessary. As well as anticipating future requirements, trends, and changes to assure current and future customer satisfaction with consideration to budget constraints.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform systems monitoring, support, and upgrades.
  • Assist in day-to-day maintenance including provisioning and troubleshooting of production systems.
  • Deliver high service quality through proactive monitoring.
  • Provide functional guidance and direction to internal and external customers.
  • Experience supporting Linux environments.
  • Troubleshoot service impairments and maintain accurate documentation of related trouble tickets.
  • Document system configurations and operational procedures.
  • Participate in ISO-9000, TL-9000, and ISO-27001 compliance and documentation activities.
  • Manage upgrades of hardware and software for telecommunications network nodes.
  • Generate and manage documentation to include circuit layout records and upkeep of the deliverable support documentation for Operations Center personnel.
  • Assist with requirements definition and implementation of interconnection to customer and vendor systems; to include configuration assessment, interconnection recommendations, and facilities specifications.
  • Perform circuit order administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience with telephony protocols (e.g. SIP, SS7, ISDN and CAMA) and knowledge of telephony infrastructure: DDS, T1, T3, OC, DACS, ISDN PRI, etc.
  • Experience testing and turn-up of circuits involving ILECS, CLECS, and/or IXCs is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing technical diagrams with Visio.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Proven history of analyzing situations and providing creative solutions.
  • Willing to work overtime as necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with various IP networking protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, and IP Multicast.


  • Familiarity of NETSCOUT/WireShark a plus for Network Troubleshooting & Performance Monitoring.
  • Experience with Acme/Oracle SBC, Oracle Communication Service Provider suite, Sonus/Ribbon (GSX9000 and SBC platforms), AudioCodes, Asterisk, FreeSwitch or similar IP PBX experience.


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.


The pay range reflects the expected base salary for this position. Final compensation will be based on role, level, skills, experience, and geographic location.
