Mission Assurance Engineer, OPS - Millennium Space Systems

Job Summary

As an Operations Systems Engineer supporting the Mission Assurance team, you will serve as the independent interface between our internal operations team and program customers. This role is strategic and cross-functional, designed to revolutionize how we operate our on-orbit vehicles. You will independently approach on-orbit activities seeking to preemptively identify and solve challenging engineering problems and find the solutions that lead to mission success by evaluating program designs within the context of risk and opportunity. Your mission is to systematically identify, define, and integrate mission assurance principles across the entire satellite lifecycle to drive significant increases in efficiency, quality, and mission success. Mission Operations requires composure in high-pressure situations, in-depth knowledge of both the space vehicles and ground segment, and an ability to respond to anomalous scenarios in real-time. You will be directly responsible for Millennium's critical assets.

This position's internal job code is Systems Engineer. Our team is currently hiring for a Level 3 and 4.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mission assurance efforts, including risk management, discrepancy resolution, and design review, for one or more programs as the Program Mission Assurance Engineer
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of previous corrective actions and lessons learned to the current operations environment
  • Translate complex engineering and operational challenges into clear, actionable requirements and lessons learned for upcoming programs
  • Review and understand the operational architecture strategy for both space and ground segments, including command and control, mission planning, mission data processing, and the associated infrastructure to support all activities in the context of the mission and associated risks
  • Work and coordinate with integration, testing, and mission operation crews to review, generate, and implement necessary training prior to critical mission events
  • Provide oversight for lead technical authorities during mission operations for both the space and ground segments
  • Be the focal for customer and internal leadership during critical mission activities
  • Contribute to oversight of nominal on-orbit operations for Millennium's entire fleet of on-orbit spacecraft
  • Participate in mission operations and anomaly resolution efforts


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years experience with at least 3+ years related to real-time satellite or launch vehicle command and control
  • Working knowledge of satellite subsystems, ground systems, space missions, and/or OPSCON design
  • Experience delivering operational products to customer environments
  • Willingness to support occasional off-nominal working hours during critical 24/7 mission operations activities
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. clearance Post Start is required


Preferred Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Advance degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Software, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary technical teams, especially to resolve anomalous scenarios
  • Experience with external customer briefing/interfacing
  • Deep knowledge of satellite systems engineering, including all satellite subsystems
  • Guidance, Navigation, and Control; Electrical Power; Thermal Control; Telemetry, Tracking, and Command; Propulsion; etc.
  • Experience with iterative and agile processes
  • Knowledge of orbital dynamics, maneuver planning, and orbit determination techniques
  • Experience designing fault detection and response, as well as designing space vehicle autonomy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to understand complex workflows and translate complex technical concepts between different audiences

  • Level 3: $119,850 - $176,250
  • Level 4: $146,200 - $215,000
