PayPal, Inc. seeks Staff Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Architecture Design and System Enhancement: Design and implement architectural improvements to the AI/ML platform, Simulation Platform, and supporting architecture. Lead technical discussions and design reviews of new platform features. Develop and enhance core platform capabilities and services. Design and implement cloud migration strategies for platform components. Create detailed technical specifications and architectural diagrams for system enhancements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural alignment with industry standards and best practices. Platform Maintenance and Performance Optimization: Monitor and troubleshoot system to maintain 99.9% ATB (Availability to Business). Implement performance optimizations across platform services and critical workflows. Enhance and maintain data systems supporting platform functionality. Develop and refine metrics collection and monitoring systems for early detection of performance issues. Investigate and resolve complex production issues requiring deep system knowledge. Update and maintain system documentation and knowledge base articles. Project Planning and Release Management: Create and evaluate technical specifications and requirements for upcoming features. Prioritize engineering work and provide estimates for release planning. Collaborate with product management to define technical roadmaps. Mentor junior engineers on industry-standard systems and architectural practices. Participate in cross-team planning sessions to ensure alignment on technical dependencies and delivery milestones. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related Engineering field, plus 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems using Java and Scala, focused on high-throughput, low-latency transaction processing (7 years)
2. Experience developing scalable data processing pipelines using Apache Spark, Hadoop MapReduce, HBase, and Kafka (7 years)
3. Experience working with graph databases to design and implement graph-based analytics and complex relationship processing systems (4 years)
4. Experience leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, and DataProc for distributed data processing and large-scale workload orchestration (4 years)
5. Experience architecting and implementing real-time distributed systems and large-scale processing workflows (4 years)
6. Experience implementing distributed search and indexing solutions using Elasticsearch and Lucene (4 years)
7. Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for deploying and operating large-scale distributed applications (4 years)
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
San Jose, California | Salary: $227,639.00-300,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
