Full Job Description
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Platform FinHub Tooling team, you'll own the technical strategy and architecture for the internal platform that gives Engineering, Customer Experience, Risk, and Compliance teams operational visibility into billions of dollars in daily fund movements across crypto, fiat, and internal wallets. FinHub sits at the core of Coinbase, and the Tooling team is what makes those fund movements searchable, investigable, and remediable at scale. You'll set the technical direction for the platform, drive an AI-first approach to internal tooling, and elevate the entire team's engineering quality while maintaining high-volume individual output. What You'll Do: • Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the FinHub Tooling platform, making key decisions on system design, reliability, and performance across multiple stakeholder groups. • Drive an AI-first approach to internal tooling, identifying where AI-powered workflows can transform operational efficiency and replacing manual processes with intelligent automation. • Build high-reliability systems that serve Engineering, CX, Risk, and Legal teams, including search, admin workflows, bulk remediation, and observability across core financial entities. • Lead cross-functional alignment with Product, Payments, and senior leadership to turn ambiguous, high-impact initiatives into scoped technical roadmaps each quarter. • Strengthen team engineering quality by defining engineering processes, leading design reviews, and mentoring engineers on architecture patterns and coding standards. Required Skills and Experience: • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a track record of designing and building fault-tolerant, highly reliable systems at scale. • Demonstrated ownership of technical strategy and roadmap for a platform, service area, or team, including making architectural trade-offs with significant organizational impact. • Proven ability to drive execution on complex, ambiguous initiatives that span multiple teams, building alignment across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders. • Track record of elevating team technical quality through mentorship, design reviews, and engineering process improvements. • Experience architecting internal tooling, admin platforms, or operational systems that serve multiple user groups with competing requirements. • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality. Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)). Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $218,025-$256,500 USD Please be advised that each candidate may submit a maximum of four applications within any 30-day period. We encourage you to carefully evaluate how your skills and interests align with Coinbase's roles before applying.
