Job Description: Clinical Utilization Management – Technical LeadPosition Summary
We are seeking a strong Java Technical Lead to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to design and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
In this role, you will build microservices and event-driven systems with a focus on FHIR-based clinical interoperability. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong ownership, and prioritize work to maximize business impact.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Design and maintain technical architecture for Clinical Utilization Management, including interoperability solutions
- Define best practices for scalability, resiliency, security, and performance
- Lead technical decision-making and contribute to roadmap planning
- Provide design walkthroughs and ensure team alignment
- Define and maintain solution patterns for FHIR-based interoperability components
- Ensure compliance with interoperability standards, security requirements, and performance goals
- Act as an escalation point for technical decisions, implementation strategies, and standards interpretation
- Manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment
Development & Delivery
- Oversee the end-to-end Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Ensure high-quality code through code reviews, testing, and adherence to standards
- Solve complex technical challenges and optimize performance
- Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications
- Remove technical blockers and guide teams on implementation decisions
- Ensure consistent implementation patterns and smooth system integrations
- Lead technical reviews to improve reliability and production readiness
- Identify gaps and drive improvements to enhance delivery quality and reduce risk
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product, business stakeholders, engineering, and QA teams to deliver on time
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Provide regular status updates, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with FHIR-based interoperability and clinical workflows
- 7+ years of experience in Java technologies (Java, Spring Boot)
- 7+ years of experience with databases:
- SQL (PostgreSQL)
- NoSQL (MongoDB)
- 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms
- 5+ years of experience with containerization
- 5+ years working in Agile environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kafka or event-streaming platforms
- Knowledge of structured logging, retry mechanisms, and health checks
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
