Description

Staff Property Accountant

Summary/Objective: The Staff Property Accountant will oversee the accounting and financial management of a portfolio of properties, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and creating complete financial packages. This detail-oriented professional will also work closely with property management, ownership, lenders, and internal teams.

Classification: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime)
Hybrid Schedule- 3 days in the office/ 2 days' work from home
Location: New York, NY 10022

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and reporting packages for multiple residential properties.
  • Manage monthly general ledger close, journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial results, budget variances, and property performance and provide meaningful commentary.
  • Oversee AP activity and ensure timely payment of property expenses.
  • Oversee and perform general ledger accounting, including AJEs, accrual adjustments and periodic account reconciliation.
  • Manage property-level cash flow, forecasting, distributions, and banking activity
  • Monthly cash reconciliations, including reconciliation of escrow, reserve and other property level cash accounts.
  • Manage accounts receivable/payable activity to ensure timely processing of receipts and disbursements by our supporting departments.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for year-end reporting.
  • Develop and refine property operating budgets annually to establish achievable performance goals.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience
  • Residential or property accounting experience strongly preferred, affordable experience a plus.
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar property accounting software is a plus.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail, with ability to self-manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with an ability to collaborate successfully with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to think critically to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000
