The NPD Staff Engineer will drive projects, though initiative and judgment to work with minimal supervision and direction. Ensures the smooth transfer of products and processes from Research and Development (R&D) into Supply Chain. Acts as a liaison between R&D and Supply Chain; clearly communicates requirements for new product introductions to manufacturing. Ensures that products and processes meet the targeted yield and capability when transferred from R&D into manufacturing.

Ensures that products and processes are designed for manufacturability. Designs and develops (or directs those who do) tools, jigs, fixtures and other equipment required to aid in the production and/or inspection of the product. Performs product and process characterization and process/product qualifications (IQ, OQ, PQ and APQ). Designs and develops Test Methods (when applicable) for use on the production floor. Applies Process Excellence tools when applicable. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Mentoring and coaching Junior Engineers during the process.

Additional duties of this role would include writing/updating work instructions, part specifications, validation protocols, technical documents, and various forms of reports and correspondence. The NPD Staff Engineer will be dedicated to supporting new product development, NPD transfers and responsible for lifecycle engineering and improvement, yield improvement, mechanical and electrical assembly, troubleshooting where needed, and various other projects including but not limited to the testing and design of tooling, requirements, and validation protocols. The NPI/LCM Staff Engineer will be responsible for selecting design directions and modifications of system components. The NPD Staff Engineer will lead decisions on scope of work, selection of equipment and length of tasks. Furthermore, additional responsibilities also include deciding on design and process changes to meet revised specifications, providing and developing solutions to problems of limited scope.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops and implement processes for manufacturing new products to be introduced to the market.
  • Works closely to transfer these newly developed processes with internal and external manufacturing sites.
  • Responsible for the cost reductions efforts of all products, materials, and techniques using engineering principles and financial impacts.
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines.
  • Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.


Responsible for the following:
  • As an individual researcher, carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
  • Work is expected to result in the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
  • Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or methods.
  • As an SME, develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment, when necessary, data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
  • May technically supervise, coordinate and review the work of a small staff of engineers and technicians, estimates manpower needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion date, or, as individual researcher or staff specialist may be assisted on projects by other engineers or technicians.
  • Practices company safety and quality policies and procedures. Actively requires conformance.
  • Responsible for the purchase or design of equipment that meets health, safety and environmental standards set by the company.
  • Responsible for performing design reviews and pre-validation assessments to ensure the safe and environmentally sound start-up of new processes.

  • Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.
  • For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • BS Engineering degree in relevant discipline required, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering degrees are a preferred.
  • 6-8 years of related engineering experience required
  • MS degree preferred in a related engineering discipline.
  • Has significant complex level engineering experience.
  • Financial background experience in the field of Operations would be beneficial.
  • Experience in the medical device industry would be an asset.
  • Project Management would be an asset.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES and AFFILIATIONS
  • Must possess a clear mastery of theoretical and practical fundamentals and experimental engineering techniques.
  • Strong English communication skills, written and oral.
  • Spanish or Mandarin speaking is a plus
  • Knowledge of drafting software systems such as AutoCad and Solidworks is required.
  • Knowledge of statistical software packages such as Minitab.
  • Process Excellence tools such as Lean and Six Sigma certification a plus.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$94,000.00 - $151,800.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation -120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave - 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave - 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off - 80 hours per calendar year
