CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Physician Fellow participates in an organized post-residency medical training program in which they have daily contact with patients and assume responsibility for their care, under the supervision of an accountable physician faculty member. All work performed by the Staff Physician Fellow must be relevant to their applicable academic field of study, and their term of employment shall not exceed the length of time necessary to complete the goals and objective of the training program, which shall not exceed three years of service.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Thoroughly participates and engages in educational and scholarly activities associated with the training program, including passing of examinations, actively participating in seminars and other scholarly activities, attending required meetings, etc.
  • Performs consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. Provides safe, effective, and compassionate patient care under supervision. Demonstrates own knowledge base and uses resources for clinical problem-solving, but also knows when to make proper use of the available supervisory and support systems.
  • Analyzes own practice for needed improvement and seeks advice and input when necessary.
  • Finds and uses evidence from scientific studies and clinical guidelines. Uses systematic approaches to improve patient care and reduce errors.
  • Provides the highest standard of patient care and completes the associated medical record documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Contributes to the working environment of the department by maintaining a professional atmosphere.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.


Staff Physician Fellows on visas must also adhere to the conditions detailed by the U.S. Department of State.
