Description
The Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU) enables the World Bank Group to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 150+ locations. For more information on ITS, see this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=VTFGffa1Y7w
The World Bank Group's Information Technology Solutions (ITS) vice presidency, through its AI Platforms & Tools team (ITSAI), develops and maintains enterprise AI platforms that enable staff across the institution to leverage artificial intelligence in their work.
Among these platforms is the mAI Factory - a cloud-agnostic, self-service AI sandboxing and experimentation environment that enables WBG staff, developers, economists, and analysts to safely prototype, test, and deploy AI models and workflows.
mAI Factory provides a secure environment for experimenting with language models (LLMs/SLMs), agentic AI workflows, and AI services, all within WBG's data governance and risk management frameworks. It is designed to accelerate the discovery and adoption of impactful AI use cases across the institution, from ideation to pilot deployment.
The key objectives of this assignment are to:
• Own and drive the mAI Factory product roadmap, ensuring alignment between technology capabilities (model deployment, versioning, AI services) and the evolving needs of WBG business stakeholders.
• Enable self-service AI adoption by building and maintaining streamlined onboarding flows for all AI services, supported by clean documentation.
• Build and sustain stakeholder community around mAI Factory through regular engagement activities including office hours, learning events, and social media communications (e.g. ViVA Engage, newsletters).
• Support forward-deployed engineering by acting as a technical liaison who helps business stakeholders troubleshoot issues and successfully adopt AI services.
• Keep updated with agentic AI capabilities, with a particular focus on API-to-UI (A2UI) agentic workflows that enable automated documentation/on-boarding materials.
Duties and Accountabilities
The ETC will function as a full-stack Product Owner embedded within the ITSAI team. The scope of work spans product strategy, stakeholder engagement, technical enablement, and community building. Specific areas include:
• Product Roadmap Ownership
The ETC will own and manage the mAI Factory product roadmap, prioritizing features and capabilities across model deployment, model versioning, and AI services. This includes translating business and user needs into actionable product requirements, working closely with engineering teams to define and track delivery milestones, and ensuring continuous alignment with WBG's AI governance frameworks.
• Self-Service Onboarding and Governance
The ETC will design, implement, and continuously improve self-service onboarding experiences for all AI services available on the mAI Factory platform. This includes building or overseeing governance dashboards that provide visibility into platform usage - such as which teams own which applications, usage metrics, and compliance tracking - enabling informed decision-making by both users and platform administrators.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Community Building
The ETC will proactively engage WBG business stakeholders through structured outreach: regular office hours, Brown Bag Lunches (BBLs), and active participation in Viva Engage and other internal social media channels. The goal is to grow the mAI Factory user community, surface new use cases, and ensure stakeholders feel supported throughout their AI experimentation journey.
• Forward-Deployed Engineering Support
Beyond product management responsibilities, the ETC alongside the engineers will serve as a hands-on technical resource for stakeholders. This includes troubleshooting AI service issues, assisting teams in navigating the platform, and bridging the gap between engineering capabilities and business needs. This role requires comfort with both strategic product thinking and technical problem-solving.
• Agentic AI Workflows (A2UI Focus)
The ETC will be acquainted with the development and enablement of agentic AI workflows, with a specific emphasis on Agent-to-UI (A2UI) architectures. This is to support the accelerating pace of documentation/UI on AI services within the platform.
Selection Criteria
• Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Analytics, or related field preferred with 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager for a technology or AI/ML platform, including ownership of product roadmaps and feature prioritization.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, Gemini Enterprise Agent Builder, or equivalent) and MCP tooling.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-cloud environment with evolving priorities
Preferred:
• Experience with agentic AI workflows and API-to-UI (A2UI) architectures.
• Hands-on experience with at least two of: Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI.
WBG Culture Attributes:
1. Sense of urgency: Anticipate and quickly respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
2. Thoughtful risk-taking: Challenge the status quo and push boundaries to achieve greater impact.
3. Empowerment and accountability: Empower yourself and others to act and hold each other accountable for results.
World Bank Group Core Competencies
As per WBG policy, an Extended Term (ET) appointment is subject to a lifetime maximum of three (3) years. Former and current ET staff who have completed or are in the process of completing their third-year ET appointment are not eligible for future ET appointments.
