ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Sr. Work Control Planner to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and/or reviews work packages including time, material, and labor estimates, written step-by-step work instructions, procedures, and/or safety and testing requirements for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance, or modification of work activities within a given facility or area.
  • Performs specific planning duties may be related to mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological equipment, policies, and procedures and may also include resolving work restraints and bringing work packages to final closure.
  • Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
  • Prepares, reviews, and issues equipment and system modification, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance work packages for unique and complex activities in unique and complex systems in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
  • Analyzes time and material requirements for unique and/or complex work activities.
  • Prepares detailed specifications for materials and labor estimates for unique and complex activities.
  • Takes the lead in developing step-by-step instructions for work for unique and complex activities.
  • Manages and expedites established priority of work packages.
  • Prepares and reviews efficient and specific instructions for the isolation, containment or de-energization of various unique and complex mechanical, physical, electrical, chemical and radiological systems according to established procedures and regulations.
  • Manages various functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information management, retrieval and review, and training.
  • Understands and adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to work control and planning.
  • Ensures all work control results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.

Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Unique knowledge of and broad experience with unique and complex work control, materials management, and mechanical maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures in unique and complex facilities.
  • In-depth understanding and ability to interpret various unique and complex mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Ability to fully utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system (Asset Suites and/or SAP) in maintaining and tracking work- planning activities.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solution on unique and/or complex problems affecting work control and planning.
  • Ability to fully conceptualize and communicate major elements of work control and planning for unique and/or complex activities, both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated exceptional skill in the preparation and presentation of work control reports.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Laboratory's work control and facility policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting work control and planning.

About the Site

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
