Overview
Senior Technical Designer
The Sr. Technical Designer manages the technical design process and provides technical expertise to evaluate apparel merchandise in terms of style, measurement and construction to achieve the appropriate fit, quality and design interpretation for the manufacturer to follow.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Manages garment evaluation process to ensure the provision of technical design assistance with master pattern and size grading as needed.
• Collaborate with Design and Product Development teams to determine fit and aesthetics.
• Complete product packages in FlexPLM, including measurements, construction details and technical sketches.
• Establish and maintain fit and construction standards to ensure brand consistency and quality.
• Prepare and lead fit sessions with Design and Product Development, discuss fit history when presenting current fit and recommend alternative methods of construction or options for components when necessary.
• Resolve and communicate fit and construction issues to International Buying Offices and factories within the development and production timelines.
• Daily communication and follow through with IBO, vendors, and all cross-functional partners.
• Enhance fit and quality through review of customer comments, competitive analysis, and conducting fit symposiums.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
• College degree in fine arts or design, or equivalent work experience in a design related field preferred.
• 8+ years of technical design experience required.
• Knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking and manufacturing process.
• A trained eye for proportion, balance and aesthetic details.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates confidence and assertiveness in fit presentation.
• Ability to self-manage, works independently, multitask, and consistently meets deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills with an acute attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
• Proactive on problem solving and resolution oriented.
• Proficiency in: Flex PLM, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Web PDM, Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

Responsibilities
• Fit Ownership: Manages the garment fit process, including conducting live model/mannequin sessions, evaluating construction, and analyzing pattern/grading revisions. Collaborates with Design and PD to recommend construction alternatives based on fit history.
• Cross-functional Partnership: Work closely with Design, Sourcing and Merchandising teams to align on fit intent, meet calendar deadlines and maintain brand standards.
• Technical Documentation: Create, maintain, and manage detailed tech packs, including: measurement specs, tolerances, grading, fit photos, technical sketches and construction details in Flex PLM.
• Vendor & Overseas Communication: Primary contact for factories on technical and fit compliance; resolves fit-related and construction issues with International Buying Office and factories to meet development and production timelines.
• Quality & Fit Optimization: Enhances garment fit and quality by analyzing customer feedback, performing competitive research, and conducting block reviews.
• Mentorship: Coach and support junior technical designers on technical issues and fit processes.
Qualifications
Education
• Degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, or related field is preferred.
Experience
• 8+ years of Technical Design experience required.
• Experience working with multiple channels: wholesale, discounters etc. is preferred.
Technical Skills
• Deep knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, fabric performance, manufacturing process.
• PLM systems experience (Flex PLM preferred), Adobe applications (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel. CLO 3D and Gerber software training is a plus.
• Exceptional attention to detail, trained eye for proportion, balance and overall aesthetic.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills, especially important for vendor/factory correspondence.

Pay Range
USD $75,900.00 - USD $118,950.00 /Yr.
