PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Build highly scalable applications to support PayPal's payment platforms, focusing on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. Define, design, implement, test, release rollout, and support full-stack software applications for PayPal. Design and develop data-intensive applications and architect them for scalability and availability. Develop high-volume backend services, with low latency and design them for scale. Apply software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms. Monitor large-scale distributed systems. Isolate errors by trouble-shooting the application stack from application to framework to underlying infrastructure dependencies and network. Develop solutions for service monitoring, automated remediation, measuring availability and reliability, performance, analytics, and network. Work with other engineers and PMs across multiple teams to gather requirements, design, develop, test, launch, and maintain features. Optimize processes and workflows for enhanced productivity and efficiency. Drive integration efforts and lead critical work streams of strategic initiatives sponsored by senior executives. Mentor other engineers and contribute to the technical direction of the team. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus four years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus six years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience designing, developing, and operating large-scale, data-intensive backend systems and APIs in production environments (4 years).
2. Experience developing front-end user interfaces using JavaScript frameworks such as React (4 years).
3. Experience designing data models and schemas to support application logic and system scalability (4 years).
4. Experience owning features across the full software development lifecycle using CI/CD and DevOps practices (4 years).
5. Experience deploying, operating, and supporting production systems on public cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP (4 years).
6. Experience designing and implementing event-driven processing for data-intensive production systems (3 years).
7. Experience designing and implementing production-ready API protection and traffic management mechanisms, such as rate limiting or request throttling (3 years).
8. Experience implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, troubleshooting, and performance optimization for production systems (3 years).
9. Experience designing and implementing automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing for production systems (3 years).
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
Primary Location | Pay Range:
San Jose, California | Salary: $187,741.00-270,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
