Leo Security is the team that protects Project Leo, Amazon's low-Earth-orbit satellite broadband initiative, spanning ground infrastructure, customer systems, and the software that operates our constellation. We are looking for a Senior Manager to lead our Security Operations, Vulnerability Management, and Security Incident Response functions.
In this role you will own the programs that keep Leo's systems resilient against evolving threats. You will lead a team of security engineers and operations professionals, set the strategy for how we detect and respond to threats at scale, and drive measurable improvements to our security posture. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, dive deep into technical problems, and raise the bar for operational excellence across the organization. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable setting long-term strategy and leading the response to a high-severity event.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead and scale the Security Operations function, including 24x7 monitoring, detection engineering, triage, and threat hunting across ground and satellite control systems.
• Own the end-to-end Vulnerability Management (VM) program - asset discovery, scanning, risk-based prioritization, remediation tracking, and reporting against service-level agreements (SLAs).
• Direct the Security Incident Response (SIR) program, including preparedness, containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident Correction of Errors (COE) reviews.
• Define and report operational metrics and Weekly Business Reviews (WBR) that give leadership clear visibility into risk and program health.
• Reduce mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to respond (MTTR) through automation, tooling, and continuous runbook improvement.
• Hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team; set clear goals, career paths, and a strong culture of ownership.
• Partner with engineering, product, and compliance teams to embed security into the development lifecycle and meet critical-security (CRIT-SEC) readiness requirements.
A day in the life
You start the day reviewing overnight detections and the vulnerability remediation queue with your operations leads, then join a WBR to walk senior leaders through risk trends and program metrics. Midday you dive deep with an incident responder on a high-severity investigation and unblock a remediation with a partner engineering team. In the afternoon you coach a manager on a hiring plan, review a detection-automation design, and set direction for the quarter's vulnerability-management priorities. This role is based on-site in Redmond, WA with the Leo Security team.
