Reporting to the Manager, Service Design, the Senior Schedule and Service Design Analyst applies specialized expertise in the design of service schedules, trains lower level staff, leads specials projects, and continually analyzes positive train control (PTC) train schedules to maintain performance. Create train schedules for regular operations, special events, and various scenarios using scheduling and modeling software. Analyze and model existing schedules for compliance with operating best practices, ridership demands, and operating constraints, continually assessing the scheduling requirements for PTC. Prepare complex detailed analytical reports of ridership, on-time performance, and modeling results to assist management in decision making. Function as a resource to lower level staff and train staff on systems and applications. Analyze proposals for new routes or services using modeling software and provide management with options that are cost effective, best meet customer needs, and comply with project parameters. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation and Urban Planning, or a related field or any combination of education and experience that equals four (4) years in transportation scheduling or planning.
- In addition to #1, must have (5) five years of transportation planning or scheduling experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation planning and scheduling.
- Considerable knowledge of scheduling software.
- Good knowledge of railroad operations and issues affecting on-time performance. Working knowledge of modeling software.
- Good analytical and organizational skills.
- Good verbal and written communications skills.
- Good math skills, specifically statistical analysis.
- Proficient in using transportation scheduling and planning software and Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to analyze performance data, prepare reports, and make presentations.
- Ability to lead projects.
- Ability to train others on scheduling and modeling software.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate a vehicle.
- Must be willing to travel within Metra's 6-county region.
- Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.
Preferences:
- Experience in RTC modeling software.
