The Senior Revenue Accountant operates as an advanced technical accounting professional with deep expertise in revenue recognition and ownership of complex, high-impact revenue streams. This role ensures the integrity of revenue reporting by applying comprehensive knowledge of ASC 606, contract structures, and financial systems within a SaaS environment. The Senior Revenue Accountant independently manages complex analyses, drives process improvements, and partners cross-functionally to influence contract design and accounting outcomes. This position requires strong judgment, autonomy, and accountability for compliance, accuracy, and scalability of revenue processes.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• Own complex revenue streams by analyzing contracts, determining appropriate revenue recognition treatment, and ensuring accurate application of ASC 606
• Analyze and interpret customer contracts by identifying performance obligations, transaction prices, and revenue timing across multi-element arrangements
• Prepare and review detailed revenue recognition schedules by ensuring accuracy of deferred revenue, contract assets, and liabilities
• Resolve complex revenue accounting issues by evaluating technical guidance and applying sound judgment to unique scenarios
• Develop and document technical accounting memos by clearly articulating conclusions, supporting analysis, and business implications
• Ensure compliance with SOX requirements by designing, executing, and maintaining effective internal controls over revenue processes
• Partner with Sales, Legal, and other cross-functional teams by advising on contract structuring to align with revenue recognition requirements
• Lead revenue-related close activities by validating data, reviewing outputs, and ensuring completeness and accuracy of reported results
• Evaluate and improve revenue processes by identifying inefficiencies and implementing automation and standardization initiatives
• Support internal and external audits by serving as a subject matter expert and providing detailed documentation and analysis
• Analyze revenue trends and variances by synthesizing complex data and providing actionable insights to stakeholders
• Ensure integrity of financial reporting by reviewing reconciliations and validating system-generated revenue outputs
• Drive consistency in revenue accounting practices by standardizing methodologies, documentation, and controls
• Support system implementations and enhancements by defining revenue requirements and validating system outputs
• Assess impact of new accounting standards by developing implementation approaches and ensuring proper adoption
Qualifications:
• 8 plus years of experience in revenue accounting, technical accounting, or public accounting with significant exposure to ASC 606 and complex contract analysis in a SaaS or similar environment, with consideration for advanced degrees such as a Master's in Accounting or CPA.
• Advanced knowledge of ASC 606 and revenue recognition principles
• Strong experience analyzing complex customer contracts and multi-element arrangements
• Expertise in revenue accounting processes including deferred revenue and contract balances
• Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls over financial reporting
• Proficiency with ERP systems and revenue subledger tools such as NetSuite or similar
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze large and complex datasets
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with sound judgment
• Effective communication and cross-functional stakeholder management skills
• Experience leveraging automation or AI tools to improve financial processes
Desired Skills:
• CPA certification strongly preferred
• Experience in SaaS or financial technology environments
• Background in Big 4 or public accounting
• Experience with revenue automation tools such as RevPro or Zuora
• Experience supporting system implementations or large-scale process improvements
The salary range for this position is: $105,600 - $132,000
