Full Job Description
We are actively recruiting for a Sr. Reinsurance Accountant to join our team in Irving, TX.

Are you an experienced accounting professional with deep knowledge of insurance accounting, GAAP, and statutory reporting? Orion180 is seeking a Senior Insurance Accountant to play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial reporting.

In this role, you will lead critical components of the month-end close, prepare and review complex journal entries and reconciliations, support audits and regulatory reporting, and partner with Finance leadership to strengthen processes and internal controls in a fast-growing insurance organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including preparation and review of complex journal entries
  • Account for ceded and assumed reinsurance transactions, including premiums, losses, commissions and recoverables
  • Perform and review balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances
  • Prepare quarterly reporting to reinsurers
  • Reconcile reinsurance balances with brokers, reinsurers, and internal systems
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly variance reporting to support leadership and FP&A
  • Prepare and review GAAP and statutory financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards
  • Support internal, external, and regulatory audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and footnote disclosures
  • Prepare schedule F and assist with other regulatory filings
  • Maintain, document, and enhance internal accounting processes and controls
  • Identify control gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen financial reporting integrity
  • Partner with cross-functional teams and serve as a trusted accounting resource


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required; Master's degree preferred
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require employer sponsorship (limited to U.S. Citizens and Green Card holders)

Experience:

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; insurance industry experience required
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, statutory accounting, and Yellow Book reporting
  • Advanced Excel proficiency required (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, nested formulas); experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to clearly communicate accounting concepts to leadership and business partners
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
