This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will review of incoming material from suppliers for conformance to drawing and purchase order requirements to support the manufacture, assembly, and test for various spaceflight systems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

Mechanical and Visual Inspection
  • Execute component inspections in accordance with approved inspection plans, verifying dimensional conformance, part marking, and full material traceability.
  • Perform receiving inspections on incoming aerospace hardware, raw materials, and assemblies using appropriate measurement techniques and tooling.
  • Review First Article Inspections (FAIs) in compliance with AS9102 requirements, ensuring all dimensional, material, and documentation criteria are satisfied prior to hardware acceptance.
  • Select and apply the correct precision measurement tools and methods for each inspection task, including hand tools, gauges, optical comparators, and surface plate setups.


Documentation Review & Records Management
  • Review all supplier-furnished documentation packages - including Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), Material Test Reports (MTRs), and inspection records - to verify compliance with applicable engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase order requirements.
  • Initiate and document nonconformance/discrepancy reports with accuracy and completeness, maintaining full traceability within the Quality Management System (QMS).

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
  • Provide engineers and buyers with clear, actionable dimensional data and inspection findings to support disposition decisions and supplier feedback.
  • Communicate inspection status, quality holds, and nonconformance trends proactively to stakeholders across Engineering, Procurement, and Manufacturing to minimize schedule impact.
  • Develop and communicate accurate inspection time estimates to support production planning and workload prioritization.


Equipment & Process Stewardship
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inspection inefficiencies, recurring discrepancy patterns, and opportunities to strengthen receiving inspection processes.
  • Work safely and professionally within an industrial manufacturing environment, adhering to all safety protocols - particularly when working in proximity to flight-critical hardware.
  • Provide expertise and ownership in purchasing, introducing, and training others on new inspection equipment.


Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of hands-on mechanical inspection experience with aerospace components in a production or receiving inspection environment.
  • GD&T Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in interpreting and applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 on complex aerospace engineering drawings and model-based definitions.
  • Precision Measurement Proficiency: Demonstrated fluency in the selection and operation of basic and precision inspection equipment.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey findings and quality data to engineers, buyers, and leadership.
  • Computer Proficiency: Working knowledge of personal computers, including standard office software and electronic quality or ERP systems for documenting inspections and managing records.
  • Schedule Availability: Ability to support A-Shift hours: Tuesday - Friday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM, with willingness to work overtime as required to meet program needs.
  • Work Ethic & Professionalism: Demonstrated self-motivation, ability to independently prioritize competing tasks, and commitment to meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to build trust, maintain professional relationships, and actively contribute to a respectful and inclusive team culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum


Desired
  • Experience with inventory management and purchase order systems used in aerospace manufacturing or supply chain environments.
  • Basic machining knowledge sufficient to understand manufacturing processes and contextualize dimensional inspection findings.
  • Experience safely operating heavy lifting equipment - such as overhead cranes and forklifts - in environments where flight-critical hardware is present.
  • Familiarity with outside processing operations including heat treatment, plating, coating, EDM, and precision grinding, and the ability to review and verify associated process certifications.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certifications
  • Previous team lead experience
  • Passion and involvement in emerging inspection technologies
