SCOPE OF ROLE

Cornerstone Building Brands is searching for a motivated and experienced Sr. Quality Manager for our Houston manufactyuring facility. This individual will guarantee that our business follows industry welding and manufacturing standards along with internal guidelines. Duties will include reviewing, training, and managing the quality system within the plant. Ensuring compliances to IAS AC472, A660 and AISC standards, responding to policy violations and implementing corrective actions.

The ideal candidate will be professional, highly analytical, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, CWI certificate highly recommended. To prosper in this role, you should be fluent in quality management systems and IAS AC472, A660, and AISC standards.

Job Description
  • Drive customer focused manufacturing Quality improvement projects, from initiation to realization of improved performance
  • Implement and assure compliance with the requirements of the US Commercial QMS
  • Support teams and apply wide range of process improvement tools to assist in identifying and eliminating waste and support growth including Process Mapping, FEMA, Gauge R&R, Control plan, Pareto, Fishbone, 5 Whys 8D, SPC, DOE.
  • Using the key metrics data, develop improvement plan, present it to PLT and facilitate implementation
  • Provide quality engineering expertise and utilize specialized skills
  • Drive corrective and preventive action program, from initiation to resolution of items
  • Develop positive relationships and work closely with line supervisor to manage and implement engineering changes and process improvements.
  • Deliver results as measured by key metrics such as defect rates PPM, cost of quality and corrective action closure
  • Incorporate Lean Methodology into process improvement to improve product quality
  • Act as an internal consultant to improve quality and manufacturing processes for assigned plant
  • Ensure material/component specifications exist and are accurate for all parts
  • Hire, train and monitor Quality Engineers, QC Techs to assist in process & quality improvement
  • Work closely with customers and suppliers to resolve quality opportunities and drive process improvements.
  • Develop plant/product specific employee training to build quality awareness
  • Participates in interplant, cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical problems and customer issues.
  • Participate in Corporate Quality Audits and Third-party audits by IAS, UL, FM, A660 and AISC.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Oversee welder performance qualification testing and training
  • Oversee audits and corrective actions with accreditors. (IAS AC472), CWB A660)


Qualifications
  • Education/Credentials
    BS/BA degree in Quality, Business, Engineering or a related degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or commitment to earn the credential in the first year of employment.
  • Eight to ten years related experience in a quality management role. Six-Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification a plus. Prior experience leading a team or group of people is a plus.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in structural steel and structural sheet metal welding and fabrication in accordance with AWS D1.1 Structural Code Steel, AWS D1.3 Structural Code Sheet Steel, CSA W47 and CSA W59 Canadian welding specifications.
  • ASNT TC1A Level II in ultrasonic testing is highly preferable.

Skills/Abilities
Strong data analysis, problem solving and project management skills. Thorough understanding of metrology, statistics and statistical methods including SPC. Good working knowledge of FMEAs PPAP, APQP and Calibration. Effective oral and written communication skills in a strong team-based environment. Able to manage multiple complex situations daily and deal with rapidly changing priorities. Demonstrated ability and proficiency with use of information technology (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Visio, SharePoint and statistical analysis software). Ability to work primarily on the production floor.

This is a position with potential overtime. The shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours long depending on work orders for the day and season of the year.
