The Doctors Company is seeking a Senior Patient Safety Risk Manager. This is a hybrid position located at one of our companies offices, with the preferred office being East Lansing, Michigan.
In this highly consultative role, you will leverage your expertise in patient safety, healthcare risk management, and clinical operations to identify emerging risks, develop practical solutions, and deliver meaningful education that improves outcomes. You will partner with physicians, healthcare leaders, underwriting, claims, and sales teams to provide strategic guidance, strengthen client relationships, and support business growth and retention. Through data-driven insights, customized service plans, and proactive risk mitigation strategies, you will play a critical role in helping our members deliver safer care while protecting their practices and organizations.

Qualifications- Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
- Certifications in nationally recognized patient safety and risk management disciplines (i.e. CPPS, CPHRM, CHPQ)
- Registered nurse or other healthcare experience preferred
- 10 years experience in healthcare or insurance risk management
ResponsibilitiesMember Service- Responds to members' questions 24/7 availability and e-mail access.
- Identifies and provides consultation to members regarding risk management solutions (phone/e-mail communications or in-person discussions.
- Provides, direct and assist members with available resources including (tool kits, CME, data analytics, articles, self-assessment tools, etc.).
- Delivers solution focused risk management and patient safety consultation to members in a cost effective manner.
- Delivers live and web-based CME and non-CME training.
- Provides PS/RM services & documents in appropriate systems.
- Develops service plans for large accounts including documentation and Nova entry.
- Participates and contributes to Operational Reviews and Roundtables.
- Proactively identifies topics and sends members general alerts related to their practice.
Risk Identification and Solutions- Works with Underwriting and Claims to analyze and provide solutions for accounts with loss ratios exceeding expected performance.
- Supports the development of general service plans using closed claims data that address specific physician specialties, entity types, healthcare procedures, patient comorbidities, patient diagnoses, and other factors that contribute to patient injury.
- Gathers risk data (e.g. account-level, specialty comparison. and shares with account team members for risk analyses and solutions.
- Participates in the development & updating of CME and non-CME training as approved by Regional Leader.
- Identifies requested training trends and share with management to develop articles and on-line training.
Business Development and Relationship Development- Identifies and shares new business opportunities with the account team.
- Participates and contributes to analysis of submissions and presentations to new business opportunities.
- Develops account relationships with large accounts including the development and implementation of service plans.
- Develops relationships with the direct sales team and independent agents to assist where needed in the production and retention of business.
Plan Development and Implementation- For assigned accounts and territories, provides input to regional implementation plans
Salary Range: $103,791 - $140,068. Compensation varies based on skills, knowledge, and education. We consider factors such as specialized skills, depth of knowledge in the field, and educational background to ensure fair and competitive pay. Salary may include additional geographic differential for employees working in higher-cost labor markets, including states such as New York and California.
