Core Requirements and Responsibilities

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading complex, strategic customer implementations from initiation through successful completion. This role operates with a high degree of independence and serves as a senior point of accountability for customers, project teams, and internal stakeholders throughout the implementation lifecycle.

  • Lead multiple complex, high visibility, or strategic customer implementations, ensuring successful delivery within established scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.


  • Own the development and execution of comprehensive project plans, including project scope, milestones, resource requirements, dependencies, risks, financial performance, and customer commitments.


  • Serve as the primary project leader and trusted partner for customers, establishing strong relationships with customer stakeholders and effectively communicating with audiences ranging from project teams through executive leadership.


  • Proactively identify project risks, issues, dependencies, and barriers to success and develop mitigation strategies before they materially impact project outcomes.


  • Independently manage complex or escalated customer situations, bringing together the appropriate internal stakeholders and driving issues toward timely resolution with minimal leadership involvement.


  • Provide strategic guidance to customers throughout implementation by understanding their business objectives, operational needs, and desired outcomes and connecting those needs to the overall implementation strategy.


  • Lead cross functional project teams and coordinate resources across Professional Services and other internal teams to establish priorities, clarify responsibilities, resolve dependencies, and maintain accountability for project commitments.


  • Own project financial performance by monitoring budget versus actuals, forecasting project revenue and expenditures, identifying financial risks, and taking appropriate action to maintain project health.


  • Lead project scope and change management, including evaluating requested changes, assessing business, financial, resource, and timeline impacts, and clearly communicating recommendations and implications to customers and internal stakeholders.


  • Develop and deliver executive level project communications that provide clear visibility into project health, accomplishments, risks, decisions, financial status, and actions required.


  • Anticipate resource needs and competing priorities across assigned projects and partner with Professional Services leadership to address capacity or scheduling concerns that could affect successful delivery.


  • Facilitate critical project decisions by bringing together appropriate stakeholders, presenting options and implications, and driving alignment on a path forward.


  • Maintain strong knowledge of Vertafore products, implementation methodologies, and Professional Services processes to effectively guide complex implementations and identify potential implementation challenges.


  • Establish and reinforce project management best practices, documentation standards, governance, and accountability throughout assigned customer engagements.


  • Provide guidance, knowledge sharing, and informal mentorship to Project Managers and other project team members, helping strengthen project management capabilities and consistency across the organization.


  • Identify recurring implementation challenges, process gaps, and opportunities for improvement and provide recommendations that improve customer outcomes, project execution, and Professional Services effectiveness.


  • Demonstrate sound judgment and independent decision making, recognizing when issues can be resolved within the project team and when business, customer, financial, or organizational risk requires leadership escalation.

Skills & Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • You are highly organized and have proven ability to monitor project budget vs. actuals and can forecast project revenues and expenditures.


  • You are a pro at scheduling and managing resources assigned to your projects and can manage the schedule of work for all phases.


  • You have demonstrated an ability to manage change in project scope including documenting and explaining implications of changes so they are clearly understood and approved.


  • You excel at setting and managing expectations internally with your team as well as externally to your customer to successfully deliver project.


  • You are skilled at building professional executive status reports and other required project documentation.


  • You have proven ability communicating with the customer to ensure progress is being made and concerns are managed promptly.


  • You have a proven track record of building, developing and growing business relationships vital to the success of the project in person and remotely.


  • You are experienced and can handle difficult and escalated situations with minimal leadership involvement.


  • You have the talent and ability to proactively learn and understand Vertafore software and the mechanics of their implementation and deployment.


  • You will grow and thrive at knowing the detailed task breakdown of your projects such as complex software implementation tasks and consulting deliverables.


  • You will work tirelessly to provide outstanding project team leadership to achieve, schedule, budget and scope performance.


Qualifications:

  • Proficient with MS Office Tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)


  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal, communication skills: demonstrated ability to present to groups, clients, and executives


  • Independent Insurance industry experience is highly desirable


  • 5+ years of customer facing project management experience (preferably within a software environment)


  • Previous experience with technical support and troubleshooting is a plus


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience


  • PMP certification (desired but not required)


  • You must be able to travel up to 10% throughout the year with possible weekend and evening activity as needed
