Sr. Occupancy Planner

Location: San Jose, CA

Function: Facilities & Corporate Real Estate (CRE)

Reports to: Facilities / Workplace Resources

Role Overview

The Sr. Occupancy Planner is responsible for enabling Cadence's business growth by planning, managing, and optimizing office and lab space across the North American portfolio. This role serves as the single point of coordination for space planning, occupancy data, and Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC), ensuring space decisions are aligned with headcount forecasts, project delivery, operational readiness, and employee experience.

The role works cross-functionally with Business Units, HR, Finance, IT, Facilities / Workplace Resources to translate business demand into executable space plans and moves-balancing near-term execution with long-term flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

Space & Occupancy Planning
  • Partner with Workplace Resources leadership and Human Resources to develop, implement, and improve North American Workplace standards, programs and processes, while supporting alignment across global portfolio.
  • Develop and manage stack and block plans, seat allocation strategies, capacity models, and space test-fits to align workforce growth, business requirements and workplace standards.
  • Track and analyze headcount forecasts, occupancy trends, capacity constraints to support real estate, renovation and capital project decisions.
  • Partner with HR and Finance to align top-down growth projections with bottom-up BU requests.
  • Support long range workplace planning by evaluating growth scenarios, alternative work strategies, lab and office reconfigurations, and future space flexibility needs


Moves, Adds & Changes (MAC) Execution
  • Own and manage incremental and project-based moves, restacks, and new-hire seat assignments.
  • Coordinate MAC execution with Business Units, Facilities Operations, IT, furniture vendors, and external service providers.
  • Develop move plans, sequencing, and communications; provide on-site support as required.
  • Ensure post-move issues are tracked and resolved to completion.
  • Manage CAFM platform and processes


Data, Systems & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and timely space, seat, and employee data in CAFM systems.
  • Ensure floor plans, occupancy metrics, and move records are reliable and current.
  • Produce reporting on utilization, capacity, and demand vs. supply for leadership review.


Furniture, Assets & Space Readiness
  • Manage furniture plans, orders, installations, repairs, and surplus inventory.
  • Coordinate space readiness activities including hard-wall offices, paint, cleaning, and general condition.
  • Partner with Facilities Operations to resolve day-to-day space issues impacting employees.


Cross-Functional Coordination & Governance
  • Act as a liaison between Business Units, Facilities/WPR, IT, HR, Finance, and Procurement.
  • Support Procurement with vendor coordination, pricing reviews, requisitions, and invoice processing.
  • Provide planning inputs to construction and renovation projects led by Facilities/WPR.
  • Document decisions, approvals, and planning assumptions to create institutional continuity.
  • Other duties as required


Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Architecture, Design, Construction Management, Real Estate, Finance, or related field.
  • 5-7+ years' experience in occupancy planning, space planning, MAC, or corporate facilities/CRE.
  • Experience supporting multi-building or campus environments preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of: CAFM / IWMS platforms, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage BU leaders and senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities.


The annual salary range for California is $108,500 to $201,500. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the salary range is a guideline and compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
