Full Job Description
What You'll Be Doing

The Sr. Mobile Engineer, Simplii Technology will play a key role in shaping our React Native engineering capability and helping us build a high-performing mobile development team. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and evolution of scalable mobile applications across iOS and Android, while also establishing strong engineering practices, mentoring developers, and raising the bar for technical excellence. The successful candidate will bring deep hands-on React Native expertise, strong native mobile foundations, and the leadership mindset needed to help grow a strong internal community of React Native developers. Just as importantly, this person will know how to build strong working relationships across product, design, accessibility, and key stakeholder groups to ensure solutions are technically sound, customer-centric, and aligned to business needs.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You'll Succeed

  • Technical Leadership & Delivery: Lead the design, development, and delivery of high-quality React Native applications that are scalable, secure, maintainable, and optimized for performance across iOS and Android.
  • Architecture & Engineering Standards: Define and apply modern mobile architecture patterns, reusable component approaches, testing practices, and coding standards that improve quality, consistency, and developer productivity.
  • Native Platform Integration: Use your experience in native iOS and/or Android development to guide platform-specific design decisions, integrate native capabilities, and resolve complex technical issues when React Native alone is not sufficient.
  • Team Building & Mentorship: Help build and strengthen our development team by mentoring engineers, supporting hiring and technical evaluation, conducting code reviews, and coaching others on React Native best practices.
  • Community of Practice: Foster a strong community of React Native developers by sharing knowledge, improving team practices, contributing to standards, and helping create an environment of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Build strong working relationships with product, design, accessibility, backend, architecture, and delivery teams, and partner closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into practical mobile solutions. You will work collaboratively across these groups to align priorities, resolve trade-offs, and deliver high-impact customer experiences.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate 7+ years' experience in software engineering, including deep hands-on experience building production-grade mobile applications with React Native and TypeScript. You have a strong track record of delivering scalable, high-quality mobile experiences and understand what it takes to support enterprise delivery standards.
  • You bring strong native mobile foundations. You have meaningful experience with iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and/or Android (Kotlin/Java), and can confidently work through native integrations, platform constraints, and performance optimization challenges.
  • You know how to raise the technical bar. You are experienced in solution design, code reviews, testing strategies, CI/CD practices, release discipline, and establishing engineering standards that improve quality and maintainability.
  • You help build strong teams. You have experience mentoring developers, influencing technical direction, and helping develop internal capability through coaching, knowledge sharing, and community building.
  • You are fluent in modern React Native tooling. Experience with Expo (managed and bare workflows), EAS Build, OTA updates, testing frameworks, state management patterns, and mobile CI/CD pipelines are strongly preferred.
  • You embrace and champion change. You stay current with mobile engineering trends, continuously improve how you work, and bring forward ideas that strengthen the team and our technology approach.
  • Your influence makes an impact. You build strong relationships across teams, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and have experience working closely with product, design, and accessibility partners to move decisions forward and deliver better customer outcomes.
  • You're digitally savvy. You seek out innovative solutions, balance speed with sound engineering judgment, and adapt quickly to evolving tools, platforms, and delivery needs.
  • You have a degree/diploma: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • You love to learn. You are curious, growth-oriented, and motivated by helping others learn and succeed.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and live our values of trust, teamwork, and accountability.
