  • Oversee vendor acceptance for builds and refurbishments of thermal equipment.
  • Represent thermal equipment reliability in organizational reviews and communicate risks to leadership.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for thermal equipment failures.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

The Advanced Manufacturing Group's Operations Reliability organization owns reliability of execution across ground systems, GSE, and tooling - including design reliability, asset introduction, and build. As Sr Manager, Thermal Processing Equipment, you will build and lead the function responsible for the full reliability lifecycle of Blue's thermal processing equipment - ovens, furnaces, quench systems, heat-treat, and related thermal assets.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Build and lead the Thermal Processing Equipment Reliability function - hire, mentor, and develop reliability and design engineers across the discipline
  • Own reliability engineering for thermal processing equipment
  • Own design reliability inputs into new and modified thermal equipment (ovens, furnaces, quench, heat-treat)
  • Own the asset-introduction for thermal equipment: commissioning, validation, and transition into sustained operations to a defined reliability standard
  • Partner with Design, Production, Ground Systems Development, Maintenance, and Operations to drive thermal-equipment reliability requirements upstream into design and procurement decisions
  • Oversee vendor acceptance for thermal equipment builds and refurbishments
  • Represent thermal equipment reliability in reviews, escalations, and cross-organizational decisions; communicate risk and recommendations to leadership
  • Direct RCA and corrective action for in-service thermal equipment failures affecting ground systems and GSE

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in mechanical, thermal, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years in engineering, manufacturing, or operations in a complex hardware environment, with direct experience on thermal processing equipment (ovens, furnaces, heat-treat, or similar)
  • 3+ years leading engineers or technical teams
  • Demonstrated experience in reliability engineering methods: FMEA, RCA, criticality analysis, maintainability, reliability requirements development
  • Experience driving reliability or design inputs across organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace, launch, or other high-reliability operations environments
  • Experience standing up a new team or function from the ground up
  • Direct experience with industrial thermal processing equipment: heat-treat furnaces, quench systems, autoclaves, or similar large thermal assets
  • Reliability certification (ASQ CRE) or formal reliability engineering training
  • Experience with asset introduction, commissioning, and transition of new hardware into sustained operations
  • Vendor oversight and acceptance - verifying reliability/quality requirements met before delivery


Base Pay Range for:
CA applicants is $171,093.00 - $239,529.15
