Full Job Description
Senior Manager, Data Center Sales Engineer to join our team!

Purpose of the Role

Keel Infrastructure is seeking a Sales Engineer to support the sale of datacenter capacity. This role sits at the intersection of sales and technical delivery, translating Keel's design standard and site capabilities into terms a customer's technical teams can evaluate and trust, while translating customer requirements back into what Keel can commit to without slowing down site delivery.

The Sales Engineer works directly with prospective and existing customers through the sales cycle: joining prospecting calls to qualify technical requirements, presenting Keel's MEP and facility design approach, responding to RFPs, and building the technical designs and documentation that support a signed deal. This is a customer-facing technical role, not a design-authority role. The Sales Engineer represents Keel's standard to the market; the Design & Engineering team owns and evolves that standard internally.

The ideal candidate has deep fluency across power, cooling, and electrical systems in mission-critical facilities, along with a working understanding of compute and networking technology and how it drives those requirements. As rack densities and chip architectures evolve, this person needs to know what that means for power delivery, cooling approach, and electrical design, not just describe the systems as they exist today. That fluency is what lets them hold a credible, detailed technical conversation with a customer's infrastructure team, while keeping sight of the commercial goal: closing capacity deals on a timeline that protects speed to market.

Key Responsibilities

Customer-Facing Technical Sales
  • Serve as the primary technical resource in the sales cycle, presenting Keel's MEP systems, cooling architecture, electrical topology, and facility design approach to prospective customers.
  • Join customer prospecting calls alongside Sales to assess technical fit early, ask the right diagnostic questions, and set realistic expectations before a deal moves forward.
  • Join design calls with customer technical teams to walk through system specifications, resolve open technical questions, and work toward a design that satisfies both the customer's requirements and Keel's standard.
  • Build confidence with customer technical resources (facilities, infrastructure, and engineering teams) by speaking credibly to system design, redundancy, and capacity delivery.
  • Answer detailed technical questions on power density, cooling systems, and electrical distribution in real time during customer meetings and evaluations.

Requirements Translation
  • Translate customer requirements (power density, redundancy, timeline, and site preferences) into what Keel's standard design and site pipeline can deliver.
  • Translate Keel's standard design and vendor (A&E/MEP) deliverables into customer-facing materials that are accurate without exposing internal design detail that should stay with delivery teams.
  • When a customer requirement doesn't match Keel's standard design on its face, assess whether Keel's existing solution meets the underlying need in a different way before treating it as a deviation. Where a true deviation is required, flag it and work with Design & Engineering and Development to assess feasibility, cost, and schedule impact before any commitment is made.

RFP Response & Design Support
  • Own the technical sections of complex RFPs and RFIs, building supporting designs, capacity models, and system diagrams as needed to answer customer requirements.
  • Build conceptual or preliminary technical designs to support a proposal, coordinating with A&E/MEP partners and Design & Engineering to ensure alignment with Keel's approved standard.
  • Maintain a library of reusable technical proposal content (system descriptions, capacity tables, standard diagrams) to shorten RFP turnaround without sacrificing accuracy.

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Partner with Sales and Development leadership to scope deals that are technically sound and deliverable within Keel's speed-to-market model.
  • Work with the Design & Engineering team to stay current on Keel's design standard and any changes that affect what can be represented to customers.
  • Coordinate with Construction and Development Project Managers to validate delivery timelines referenced in customer-facing materials.
  • Loop in Power Strategy & Procurement and Utility Interconnection on any customer conversation involving load, interconnection timing, or power availability.

Requirements

Experience & Background
  • 8+ years of experience in mission-critical facility engineering, datacenter MEP systems, or technical sales engineering supporting large-scale infrastructure or datacenter customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical systems for a customer audience, including customer technical stakeholders directly.
  • Experience responding to and winning complex RFPs involving technical design content.
  • Direct experience selling or supporting sales of large-scale or colocation datacenter capacity.
  • Experience working alongside A&E/MEP design firms or an internal design standards function.

Technical Knowledge
  • Deep fluency across power, cooling, and electrical systems in mission-critical facilities.
  • Working understanding of compute and networking technology and how evolving chip and rack architectures drive power, cooling, and electrical requirements.
  • Familiarity with liquid cooling and high-density rack architectures for AI/HPC workloads.

Leadership & Competencies
  • Technical credibility strong enough to hold a room of customer engineers, paired with the commercial instinct to know when a detail matters to the deal and when it doesn't.
  • Skilled translator across audiences: equally comfortable with a customer's infrastructure team, Keel's internal design and delivery teams, and sales leadership.
  • Sound judgment to tell the difference between a customer request Keel can already meet in a different way and one that truly requires a deviation and escalation.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator, especially under RFP deadline pressure.
  • Collaborative by default: this role only works if Design & Engineering, Development, and Sales trust what gets represented to the customer.
  • Experience presenting technical trade-offs to executive audiences on either the customer or Keel side of the table.

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
Work Arrangement
  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: On-site (NYC HQ) a minimum of one week per month.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to other Keel sites or vendor/partner locations as required.

In addition to the stated base salary range, this role receives an end of year cash bonus and participates in our yearly equity grant.
