The RoleThe Senior Lead Engineer will lead and participate in multiple team environments and provide efforts to all aspects of system integration including design, needs analysis, design review, testing, implementation, and validation. As a highly technical and hands-on position, the Senior Lead Engineer will be responsible for systems in support of Lumen's Government and commercially managed services platforms addressing critical infrastructure protection missions. The Senior Lead Engineer will also assist with the overall planning and direction of the network architecture, helping to build the roadmap to keeping the networks up to date with technology trends in the industry.
The Main ResponsibilitiesCandidate must be a US Citizen and hold an active Department of Defense TOP SECRET SCI clearance to be considered for this position.
Responsible for managing and maintaining strategic planning on sites and segments on a national fiber optic and Layer 2/3 switched network to include:
- Equipment slot availability
- Actual, planned and future requirements
- Optical capacity
- Carrier Ethernet capacity
- MPLS Segment Routing capacity
- Power and cooling requirements
- Tracking Aging/End of Life equipment
- Planning upgrades to support new requirements ensuring bandwidth ahead of demand
- Updating site route maps
- Working with contractors and/or customers to deliver and integrate requirements that meet all testing and validation requirements outlined in the performance specification
- Providing design review information for Design Review Packages
- Facilitating circuit delivery/integration/activation, and service migrations for the network as required
- Provide cost models for equipment and labor needed to support new sites/routes/services on the network
- Directly interfaces with Government customers, vendors, subcontractors, and other Lumen groups
- Provides architecture assistance for installation teams
- Understands and adheres to Federal, customer site and company policies and practices
- Updates network drawings using MS Visio and other software-based applications
- Knowledge and application of zero trust practices and principles to network architectures a plus
- Familiarity with server deployments and maintenance for telecommunications Network Management Systems (NMS) a plus
- Technology briefs around new products and services with recommendations and rough order magnitude pricing for integration into the network
What We Look For in a CandidateBasic Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience should include designing, building, installing and maintaining Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks
- Knowledge of optical equipment, Carrier Ethernet, SR-MPLS and wavelength division multiplexing
- Candidate must be a US Citizen with an active TOP SECRET/SCI Level clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- 10 years of experience in telecommunications O&M, installation, and engineering
- Knowledge of Ciena, Juniper and Infinera/Nokia equipment desirable
- Knowledge reviewing and analyzing solicitation documents and developing solutions
CompensationThis information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges
$145,456 - $193,940 in these states: VA
