Full Job Description
Flexible Work Arrangement: Hybrid

PJM is seeking a dynamic and talented Engineer to join our Transmission Operations team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our transmission system. With rising electricity demand due to the proliferation of energy-intensive data centers, electric vehicles, and more, PJM's transmission system infrastructure is undergoing major upgrades. This, coupled with a historic transformation to more renewable energy sources that rely on wind and sun to produce energy, is one of the most exciting times to join PJM. As part of a highly collaborative team at PJM, your work will be critical to ensure reliability is maintained while navigating and coordinating the projects associated with these upgrades through regular interaction with our Transmission Owners. Our team also has a unique position in the company acting as a liaison between the Dispatch/Reliability Engineers in the control room and several other departments/divisions within PJM to assist in meeting several demands from maintaining model accuracy to supporting market efficiency. Essential Functions:
  • Perform comprehensive power flow analysis to evaluate transmission outage requests using EMS and PSS/E.
  • Identify and mitigate potential operating issues related to transmission outage requests including both routine maintenance and project related outages.
  • Maintain major transmission upgrade project outage schedules in coordination with transmission owners.
  • Coordinate Transmission and Generation Outages.
  • Coordinate the energization of new/upgraded facilities on the system and ensure all accurate parameters are in place prior to energization
  • Conduct seasonal operating studies under the auspices of the OATF and other RRO study initiatives.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of EMS transmission system model.
  • Support PJM Procedures/Tools/Initiatives including drafting temporary transmission operating procedures and maintain PJM manuals.
  • Maintain PJM's Transient Stability Analysis (TSA) tool including accurate modeling of generator data and running stability studies to support RE/Dispatch department with real-time results.
  • Support PJM compliance efforts to adhere to NERC and RRO standards.
  • Represent PJM on Transmission-related Committees and Study Groups - Represent PJM on committees sponsored by NERC, RFC, PJM, or others.
  • Coordinate with Dispatch and Reliability Engineers propose enhancements to existing applications and processes, propose development of new tools and processes, and assist in the development of tools for the economic evaluation of efficient system operation.
