Full Job Description
The Role:

Working in the collaborative investment management unit of the Treasury Department, the senior investment analyst role plays an integral role in supporting the oversight of the Corporate, Retirement, Employee Savings Plan, and Foundation investment portfolios with combined assets in excess of $7.0 billion. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an analytical and motivated professional to contribute to core portfolio management functions, including performance analytics, manager selection, asset allocation research, trade execution, risk management and Investment Committee presentation preparation. The analyst will also leverage technologies and internal AI tools to drive workflow efficiency, data automation, and impactful financial modeling.

Key relationships include internal Finance, Human Resources, Actuarial, and Legal departments as well as external investment managers, national auditing and actuarial firms, investment management consultants, and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association peers.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Contribute to all aspects of the portfolio management process, including portfolio monitoring, trade execution, purchase and redemption requests, transfer activities, and compliance tracking.
  • Support the production of key portfolio deliverables, including monthly reports, treasury and investment dashboards, annual surveys, and Internal Investment Committee (IIC) materials.
  • Manage and produce the monthly performance reports, providing in-depth manager and attribution analysis to provide clear results and recommendations to senior management as needed.
  • Actively contribute to internal portfolio discussions regarding asset allocation, rebalancing, liquidity management, and risk tolerance, while supporting the evaluation and selection of new investment managers.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with investment managers, consultants, custodians; participate in manager meetings, memorialize pertinent points and clearly delineate follow-up actions as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve financial models and stress-testing frameworks to support investment analysis function.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects focused on process improvement, data automation, and system integration by leveraging systems such as Bloomberg, Clearwater, and BNY NEXEN.
  • Assist in updating investment policies to reflect annual strategy changes, coordinate with Investment Accounting and Tax teams to ensure policy compliance, and support year-end audit and tax coordination.


Challenges/Problem Solving:
  • Timely completion of monthly production reports presents challenges because data originates from several external sources and the receipt of this information can vary on a monthly basis. Successful candidates will possess excellent organizational and communication skills with an emphasis on proactive timeline planning and identifying opportunities to automate data workflows.
  • Market information is ever-present and distributed through numerous channels. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to synthesize relevant data from market subscription services, financial platforms, and manager commentaries into actionable insights to inform future investment discussions and assumptions.
  • Working effectively with external investment managers and the custodian bank to ascertain portfolio compliance and monthly holding positions while maintaining existing business relationships.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of multiple systems and platforms including but not limited to Bloomberg, Clearwater, BNY NEXEN etc.


Decision Making Authority:
  • Authorized to communicate operational and reporting instructions to external investment managers with respect to reporting deliverables and enhancements to satisfy proper due diligence responsibilities.


Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Educate and collaborate with Treasury peers on investment portfolio intricacies (i.e. SOIP guidelines, security definitions, asset classification etc.) to ensure the robust oversight and consistent reporting of the BCBSMA invested assets.


Qualifications (knowledge/skills/abilities/behaviors):
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and interact effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of foundational capital markets concepts, multi-asset classes, investment instruments, and macroeconomic factors influencing portfolio outcomes.
  • Experience with fixed income securities, equities, or alternatives (real estate, private credit and private markets) is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience with workflow automation and enterprise AI tools (Gemini / ChatGPT) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn investment systems such as Clearwater Analytics, Bloomberg and BNY NEXEN.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude, strong organizational skills, and eagerness to learn and grow within institutional investing in a healthcare environment.


Education/Relevant Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in finance and/or accounting required. MBA or MSF or progress towards a plus.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in investment management, treasury, or portfolio analysis (required).
  • Experience in institutional asset management, insurance investments, or health insurance company treasury operations is a plus; familiarity with NAIC Risk Based Capital Framework and Division of Insurance Statutory Accounting Filings is a plus.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation or active progress towards completion is strongly preferred.

Salary Range: $95,040.00 - $116,160.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
